Just wondering that most zth'er use..

Me.. the stock EK9 pads.. hard braking, and the pad compound come off in chunks, then the pedal shudders for a bit for the subsquent braking due to the chunks sticking to the discs. Waiting for them to run out so I can get better ones. Friend is recommending EBC yellowstuff.. but until I'm ready to buy... I'd better not think about the price.. :P

How about you guys?

talking about brake, wonder what else i need to change if rotor change to a bigger one? what is the thing call for the caliper to fit on one?

btw, the cheapest upgrade is it prelude rotor? what is the size? pcd100 or 114?

From what I've heard.. the prelude BB rotor and calipers, master cylinder and other related bits are bolt ons.. no need modding.. so should be PCD 100, and doesn't need brackets.

Eh, EVO x2.. what pads are you using?

go for green stuff if u're on a budget. red stuff r great but they wear out quite fast. if the pad has kevlar material, the stopping power is better but the downside is they wear out quiet fast. but the working temperature is higher.

Good thread this... how much for the Prelude set of brakes? Is the prelude better or stock Ek9?

Btw im using Endless for my fronts. Good stuff, no juddering under hard braking but i havent tested under stressful conditions as in bring the car for track or genting.

When I used Nissin for the fronts, they tend to scratch the discs. The discs checked out fine previously.

stock pad, brake feel so lousy after driving the S15 & Sti, so changing to bigger rotor will help right? how much is the green stuff? better than stock?

i found this:

Stock 10.3" GSR/ITR rotor size (ITR - 4x114)

Prelude 11" rotor (4x114)

thats mean need to redrill the rotor to be pcd100, would that cost much?
how about the braket for holding the caliper stuff? must mod again?

anyone tried the brembo max rotor? very Cheap but not sure is it good or not?

PS: is the type R caliper same as the normal one or special?

Good choice.. you will love it.. hehe...

To be exact:-

EG B16A/EK B16A/DC2 GSR All 262mm diameter disc with 4 hole PCD 100

DC2 96 spec Type R 262mm diameter disc with 4 hole PCD 114.3

EK9-R / DC2 98 spec R 282mm diameter disc with 5 hole PCD 114.3

Prelude BB1 282mm diameter disc with 4 hole PCD 114.3

All rotors can be re-drilled to any PCD to fit if you want for road use but if going bigger discs then you will need the appropriate caliper to go with it.

A very common mod.

BB1 discs will have to be re-drilled to PCD 100 to fit EK/EG/DC2.

BB1 caliper will need some machining on the bracket to change offset to fit properly and proper offset.

Much thanks Chris for this info.

i've used brembo max before paired with ebc greenstuff, did not survive the track day sessions. disc warped and car was just bloody dangerous to drive. Now on Tarox 40 slots and ebc yellow, no issues so far with 3 track days.

I'm not putting down brembo though, could be my driving style is kelam kabut hence why the disc was not able to take it....

Hah, thought about kacau a bit, too late, Chris2000 oledi done it.

The Prelude / CTR / ITR front brake setup mod is very popular with SG's EGs and EKs. If someone, or some shop sezs no need to machine the Prelude / CTR / ITR front caliper's bracket to fit your EGs / EKs, only using some washers.....eeekkkk! Can be done, but seriously, it's not that safe, and machining about 5mm off from the caliper bracket is seriously less than RM 100 per set of two, and safer too. And yeah, the discs hafta be redrilled to PCD 100. Chris2000 got lobang for a good, trusted machining shop for this work. Also, better skim the discs at the same time, and better yet, put about 6 - 8 grooves per disc, this helps in cleaning up the pad a wee bit, and look damn cool too. Make sure the grooving work is only about 1/2 inch deep ( or so, I forgot ), and length of grooving must keep a minimum of 1 inch clearance on both grooving ends, please dont groove all the way to the outer and inner part of the braking area.

I've wanted to do this for sooooo long oeldi ( since 8 months ago ) but as always, car mod fund is always running short. Sheeesh!

To make the mod even better, upgrade to Goodridge's SS brake hoses ( oso from Chris2000! ), pads to EBC Yellowstuff or Redstuff. To maximise the potential of your brake mod even more, change the master cylinder to Prelude or Accord's ( I think it's the biggest you can find, and is fitted without major mods, only have to realign the steel brake pipe ), and please use a minimum of dual layer brake pump too.

Only slight understeer ( due to bigger discs ), but damn cool to see the caliper and disk filling up your 15's. And the braking powah, fuh! At least 20 - 30% better than standard and costing you way less than one piece ( yes, one piece ) of Spoon's 4 pots.
