Everyone here is talking about cars. Well, they do and they should because this is zerotohundred.com. But does anyone ever talk about diesel cars? Since petrol price is increasing really, I mean, REALLY FAST!

Or is it just me who just prefer the diesel cars?

Well there should be some. I mean, they got potential and they got the earth moving torque, but none of Malaysian petrol heads are interested in diesel (the name itself tells it all). To prove that diesel are fast, here are some proof.

Peugeot 908 Hdi Le Mans (2007)

Audi R10 Le Mans (2006)

BMW 120d

BMW 535d

See it for yourself.

And I hope someone could use a diesel to drift someday!

i dont think we can save much by choosing diesel vehicle nowadays. Diesel car usually much more expensive and the spare part also quite pricey. Bit cheap on gas but spend more on the car price itself and service as well.

Gee, ur right.

Sigh.. when can Malaysia be like the EU? Diesel there is very cheap and easy to maintain. Not like here. But logically, diesel cars should and would be easier to maintain.

Somehow there is a propaganda (I think) for people to just continue to use petrol to make sure that the country could still gain profit.

If I'm not mistaken, Diesel engine is very popular in Europe, because it's cheaper, more economic (Lit/power output) and more environmental friendly (compare with Petrol). Beemer with the D engine, Mercedes with their CDI and many more.

However, I don't know why, it's least popular in Malaysia. Government given special road tax discount for machine running modern Diesel. Any reason behind that make Diesel engine not that propular here?

The sulphur content in M'sia's diesel is very high...and its quality is not as good as the diesel quality in EU.
If those latest diesel engine techonology were to be used here in M'sia, the injector is going to get clogged with dirt...and caused it to be very expensive to repair or changed.

My friend has the Landcruiser Cygnus diesel...and he's not taking any chance with the diesel quality...he changes the fuel filter at every 10k km.

last time when the diesel price was still below rm1 perliter, i was enjoying driving my doublecab everywhere. Imagine travelling 300km wit just RM15-20 of gas. But today no more happy driving wit it. I prefer my tiny kelisa as my major transport now and only use the diesel 4wd if need extra room or going semi off road.

But, if I'm not mistaken, roadtax for diesel cars below 2 litres are given lower than usual. Is it true? Need conformation here.

i found this roadtax calculator, not sure how accurate is it. I can't find any calculator in JPJ website v5

http://www.thecar.com.my/tools.html

yes, even the "Green Diesel" is almost double of normal petrol engine.

dont forget the road tax is more expensive then the normal
depends on the engine type...newer diesel engine is classified as green engine. the roadtax is the same with petrol engine...i have a triton (2.5) n the roadtax is almost the same with my a32 cefiro (VQ25DE)

Not accurate. my isuzu roadtax only few hundreds but the site calculation is more than 1K. can use diesel vehicle just dont buy those rare brand onelah especially from europe. Japan brand is much cheaper. the spare paert are also easy to get. can mix and match somemore.

Really, few hundreds only? What is the cc of the engine? But Japanese diesel engine miles behind in improvisation. If only BMW 318d is sold here, i would defenitly make it my car, coz it does 50.4 mpg! Save my pocket money! Hahaha

OTW, if I'm not mistaken, dual cabin and SUV have their own formula to calculate roadtax. I was surprise to find out Murano roadtax cost only RM700+ (if I remember correctly).

true...SUV/MPV/dual cabin have cheaper roadtax rate...
my friend owns a Nissan Elgrand tuned by IMPUL with VQ35DE engine...roadtax only rm2xxx nia...kns....really cheap consider i used to pay rm2100 for a 3.0 cefiro....but similar engine on a v35 skyline will set up back around rm4xxx!!!! huge differences!!!!

My dad's Rexton 270xdi's roadtax is rm1xxx. Love the car.

But calculating with the stuff given, this is the result:-
1. petrol rm 1385
2. diesel rm 5540!
3. "green" diesel rm 2770

so this thing isn't accurate, but what's the difference between diesel and "green" diesel?

anyone can help me find info about cars with diesel engine below 2 litres have lower diesel tax than usual?
