http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/6025/062620071009135659or5.jpg 2008 BMW 6 Series Not wanting to rest on their laurels, BMW has seen fit to make major upgrades to the 2008 6 Series models. Visually, the 6’s unique profile remains essentially unchanged. But there are numerous differences in the details, most prominent being the redesigned lower section of the front fascia where it wraps more smoothly toward the front wheels, along with more deeply cut side sills. New color choices including Space Gray and Deep Sea Blue round out the makeover. The engine of both the 650i Coupe and Convertible remains the same – a 4.8-liter V-8 that produces 360 bhp at 6300 rpm with torque rated at 360 lb.-ft. at 3400 rpm – but there are new technologies being applied to its ancillaries to aid efficiency in these fuel-conscious times. One is a clutch for the belt drive of the air conditioning compressor that automatically disconnects the compressor as soon as the air conditioning is turned off. But the big drivetrain-related news is the no-cost option of an all-new six-speed Sport Automatic transmission that features steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Another neat new tech feature is Brake Assistant which, working in conjunction with the car’s optional radar-based active cruise control and the stability control systems, will pre-load the brakes should the system decide that the driver is possibly getting into a position where he/she might need additional stopping power. An optional lane departure warning system will vibrate the steering wheel if it deems the driver may be leaving the correct lane; night vision and head-up display are also available on the tech advancement front. And like the latest 3 Series convertible, sun-reflective seating surfaces will be available in the new 6 Series drop top. The first three years have been very kind to this sleek, luxury grand tourer – well-heeled consumers have snapped-up over 75,000 units the world over. New and improved for 2008, look for version 2.0 to continue down the sales path of success. http://www.roadandtrack.com/
