IMO CVT is better than an automatic transmission, be it fully auto or even ECT/super ECT.

i think we are talking about comparison between vios and city isnt it?

CVT delivers power by mechanical where else an automatic transmission uses ATF as medium so, there is noticeable loss of power.

advantage of CVT - no need clutch system, continuosly varies to suit engine speed and vehicle speed, with programmed ECU (like City) virtual gears can be preset while loss of power is minimal.

actually, toyota also has CVT models but local franchise dealer decided to stick to traditional market of selling in auto and manual specs while Honda took radical approach by making available CVT models.

if not mistaken, Subaru was first to mass produce CVT cars about 2 decades ago

best thing is to roll this page up and use Google search. its there to help us.

thanks a bundle:) i guess the techno that goes into CVT surpases other autos (ECT)..

any more comments?

Try searching for Continuous Variable Transmission on wikipedia. theres a ton of info and history on the CVT there.

all i know is that cvt until today is still limited by its own design, making it not feasible for high powered application since it just can't support all the power. for small car however it is like the best thing ever after they invented the wheel.

check howstuffworks for cvt, there's everything you need to know there. i learn about cvt there too.
