[ATTACH=full]668716[/ATTACH] The drivers therefore must operate out of phase with each other (or else they would cancel out each others motion).In an isobaric configuration the layout is like this: [ATTACH=full]668717[/ATTACH] Disadvantages <ul> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">The cost of drivers is doubled as you need 2 rather than 1.</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Efficiency of the system is down by 3dB as compared to a single driver due to the added cone mass.</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">When you compare isobarics to a system which houses two drivers each in their own enclosure, this system would actually be 6dB less efficient.</li> </ul>Advantages <ul> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Distortion is reduced.</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Sonic bass response is improved.</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Bass is claimed as being tighter, faster, more accurate and more pure.</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Best of all doing so halves the Vas of the driver, so the enclosure size required is halved also. Meaning we can build a really small subwoofer. Being small is a great benefit, the sub won't take over your lounge or car boot which is a bonus!</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Panel sizes are smaller, so it's easier to build a really sturdy box, i.e. one that is less likely to resonate.</li> </ul>So in a nutshell you would choose an isobaric configuration where: <ul> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Size is a big issue.</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">When you want the box to be very small.</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Where more accurate bass is important</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">And if you have a hefty amplifier with plenty of juice to spare.</li> </ul></blockquote>
