As for performance filters, each time it is installed it's always placed behind the radiator and air (cool) only goes in when the car goes extremely fast, hence the reason why they're used best during fast drives or races. With a normal filter, if I am not mistaken, the standard merc like the W124 has a tube like intake which goes direct to the filter. That sorts of cool the air right before the filter. If the filter comes before tube, you're sucking in hot air.</blockquote>
