The PS3 has built in DVD playing improvements and upscaling. It's great watching even regular DVDs on it. I have been using the PS3 as my only player since i bought it almost everyday. It's also my only music player, video player for my HD camcorder through the memory stick and picture viewer.But beware of the pirated Blu-Ray discs with similar Blu-Ray design but on cardboard packaging. They are claimed to be direct copy of genuine blu-ray discs, with all special features removed, and then compressed into good dual-layer DVDs. These are in fact better than regular DVDs but no where as close as true Blu Rays.
