What? No Great Ocean Road?

Drove down that amazing 243-kilometre stretch of bitumen too many times to count during my 8 years in Melbourne. First in my old Volkswagen MK5 Golf GTI and then in my second car, a MK5 Golf R32.

Stopping to have lunch at lovely little towns like Anglesea before reaching the Twelve Apostles (down to seven unfortunately, due to erosion) is but one of the many highlights of the drive.

A must do if you're ever in Melbourne.

Actually road leading to Mesilau Gate: Mount Kinabalu's 'other' side. Almost all climbers climbed via the Timpohon Gate at the Kinabalu National Park.

Tamparuli-Kundasang-Ranau's road looks almost like this: with the killer view of our own tropical rainforest mountain. No boring ice covered peaks. The road is not Arabian-oil-money-funded smooth but not too shabby either. Definitely a driver's road. Pity I left my EG6 at home.

We do have good hill roads here. Some best kept, some widely known.

"The worlds beautiful roads" are there because they are quite scenic. (upon close up some are no better then our touge road conditions).
