As soon as the Ferrari 458 Italia has hit the streets, the birds were chirping about the imminent arrival of the racing version, which was dubbed the 458 Challenge and subsequently lead the way to a spec-race that made its way to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Ferrari has vastly improved the performance of the 458 Challenge over its predecessing 430 Challenge. The men from Maranello claim that the 458 Challenge can lap the Fiorano race track about two seconds quicker than the 430 Challenge.
On a longer track like Laguna Seca, that difference was further stretched as the 458 Challenges were clocking in times upwards of three seconds faster than the 430 Challenge cars. Such was the gap that even the fastest 430 driver, who coincidently set a new class qualifying record of 1:31.630, was still half a second behind the slowest 458 of the day.
The video shows the 450 Challenges attacking the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca, and we must say the herd of Prancing Horses look mighty stable carving through the dipping set of turns.
