There are some who have asked me about cut or better term re-grooved tyres.
Well these are tyres which are almost bald and some unscrupulous tyre shop will use these cutting or re grooving machine to cut new patterns into the already bald tyres.
I manage to spot one tyre some time ago and got some pictures....

Looks okay from a distance

Look closely and you can see the thread wear indicator (TWI) have been cut away

Of course don't risk it. I already mention unscrupulous tyre shop doing it......Some will get cheated if they don't know how to see. Many are sold to used car......:banghead:

I did change a flat tyre for an elderly lady at the wet market once. Upon removing the tyre, I asked her where got the tyre from, she mentioned the car bought from used car not long ago. I told her they gave her re-grooved tyres and the tyres have burst not punctured.....:banghead:

vr2turbo...where u get the source of the info? can make a report to RTD dept regarding this cos as per my understanding...recut/regrooved tyres for consumer vehicles is illegal.

It was very rampant those days. Nowadays, much less but still have. I think Klang should have more.
Chance upon this in one of the tyre shop, so took pics of it......

Yes, for passenger car tyres, cannot and not allowed to re-groove. Only certain truck tyres can and on the sidewall will mention re-grooveable.....

wah.. this is crazy.. those innocently didnt know about it and involve in an accident because of tyre burst is really such a waste man.
thanks for the good share!!

safety first....tires really take life if you wanna save a small penny for it. can opt for cheaper new tires...better than these re-thread one

It got me..had i not read the description given..ill say nothing wrong with the tire...years ago it would be easy to spot the regrooved tires..

no wonder tyre shop owners so rich......,.making profit from this unscrupulous acts, and risk ppl life.

new tires profit - rm10-rm50 per piece
used tires/re-thread tires - rm50-rm100 per piece

Exactly, bald tyres, zero cost. Cut and sell is 100% profit.

Actually the picture about not too bad as they cut the pattern onlt, some even cut the center groove until almost reach the carcass ply rating and that is really bad because it weakens the whole tyre.....:banghead:

sometimes car owners demand this tires.
when there is demand, there will be supply.

when i visit tyre shop, there will always be taxi owner install this kinda tires.

Yup, true also. Heard even the current 1Msia tyre voucher for taxi drivers, they go exchange for cash, instead of fit new tyres.....:banghead:

The G should have stricter law on this then...but then maybe cause Taxi seldom get into accident which is why no action was taken? But
some really drive like an S...

No accidents? You should drop by my place. Near my house they converted one house to service taxi. There are 3 accident taxis which are covered up with canvass, probably awaiting claims??

Actually JPJ got check, the taxis need to send yearly for check before road tax renewal. They have reserve set of tyre/rims. This is fitted for JPJ check, then pass already they change back to their running set.....:banghead:

taxi when accident very hard to claim, cos mostly are 3rd party insurance..., comprehensive will cost them 2k plus for a basic iswara/wira model
