Guys. Is there any alternative ways to wash K&N drop in air filter without using the standard washing kits by K&N?

I wash with normal soap n water, air gun it dry. never reoil it cos its still oilly anyway, been using for past 7 years.

wondering the same thing...

as per washing part, can use mild soap since it's cotton after all... once I've heard a guy washed his using dynamo... dunno the actual result, just that he said his engine bay smells nicer after that :hmmmm:

the oiling part that made me worried, as per bro Dayline668 sez, the cotton still oily... but if using the cleaning kit, the oil is gone so definitely needs re - oil

p/s: never cleans them since bought them brand new 2010... but my pomen sez no need washing yet...

I use K&N filter last time. Wash with dish washing detergent. Don't use soap powder because some powder do not dissolve and harder to wash off. Dry in the sun, try not to use air gun because if too strong might damaged the filter. To oil, just use ATF....:driver:

Thanks for your feedback bro vr2turbo. I guess Sunlight dishwasher can do the job just fine :burnout:

You are welcome.....
Actually just need to remove the dirt, and since oil is used to trap the dirt, the dish washing liquid is good enough to do that job. K&N filter have larger space then paper filters therefore requires the oil to trap the dirt. ATF viscosity just about the same as the K&N oil and also red in color. Try not to over oil, or it will streak and smear all over....

why ATF bro ?

All the while when service car, I just get my mech to clean for me...RM15 one time, using K&N cleaner, an extra duty type...
Thought of buying the cleaning kit myself.

But i heard K&N oil one not good cuz the oil will seem to go in somewhere I can't remember what they said before.

That is why do not over apply. If too much is applied, some will get suck in and dirty the TB.....

If follow instruction carefully, God's permit it won't dirty your MAF sensor....

p/s: anyone heard of http://www.aemintakes.com/dryflow_air_filters.htm? it does not need oil... saw it at Eneos OneU way back... not sure if still selling... nice concept though

Me just 'ketuk2' & 'korek2' my KNN filter until all dust fall out before plug it back....never washed yet coz after 'ketuk' the airfilter still looking good ;)
