While checking my car tyres this morning I noticed that its manufactured in week 39 year 08

So my tyres are about 4 years old now

But threads remaining still got around 50% to 60% all round..

The brand of the tyres are Michelin XM-1

Can forumers please advise if these tyres still can be used or is it risky to use?

From what I learnt the tyre lifespan is 5 years and for Michelin its about 6 years....

:hmmmm2::hmmmm2::hmmmm2:

Different brand will have different lifespan, but all depends where you are to? In Malaysia, Hot weather, probably 4 years.
However, also depends on the route used, Car, driving style, Car park and so on.
If you want to continue using, just give it a good check, especially the sidewall for any crack lines, even minute ones. Then look at the thread pattern for crack lines too. If have, means that the rubber has harden. Maybe not burst yet, as the tyres still have nylon or polyester strands beneath the rubber. However once the rubber hardens the traction of the tyres have weaken, therefore it is also good to replace them already....safety first..... :driver:

yessza..some tires can anly used around 1-2 years..then th threads already hard...so dangerous as it can expolde anytime...had an experience using silverstone kruizer 500...threads very thick..but expolde otw to office...thank God i'm ok....

Wah! 1-2 years really fast woh! You always park in the sun?
I know one ex-colleague (lady) who drives her car to and from work only, so about 6km a day.
After 4 years, her tyres still plenty of thread pattern, but got crack lines, so I inform her about it and she mention her husband going to change her car already, so she won't be changing tyres.
After her new car came, used car personnel came to collect her old car, and while drive on the Federal highway one of the tyres burst. She inform me about it and thank me for the inform and nowadays, she change tyres every 3 years or so, even have plenty of thread pattern.....

2 - 3 years is normal to change tyre...

btw, mind sharing why tire got swollen (bengkak) sidewall?

Why bugled? well, outer rubber and tyre carcass (usually made off nylon and polyester) break away, means rubber and carcass not attached to each other. Air from inside break through the carcass but rubber is holding them in. Rubber alone not strong enough to hold the air therefore bugle out.
Possibility is hit deep pothole, curb the road side, big rock and even can be manufacturing problem.
If have such problem, just check the tyre sidewall and rims. If cannot see any curbing mark on the sidewall and rims are not scratch at that area, take the whole car back to tyre manufacturer service center for claim....

i was using silverstone m5, lasted only 8 mths then sidewall bengkak edi....

nope cannot claim.......summore car used on weekends only....
i ban silverstone for life haha..

*this one on right hand side....no chicken strip but sidewall got blister....

i felt so weird because i always hit hole on left tyre...and cornering strain on right tyre (highway ramp almost all corner to the left) but the opposite happen... :hmmmm:

The longest I used a set of tires was about 6 yrs and it was Dunlop. Even then it still had about 20% left cuz I only used the car in short distances. Then when I went to change them, all 4 cracked on the sidewall & the rubbers came off when the machine pressed the tires to take them off the rims! I was like wow, that's scary! Cuz even just a few weeks before, I still took them over 180kph! I guess God still assigned a guardian angel on me!
So yeah I guess have to be more careful, maybe max 4-5yrs and change, don't go longer than that. Michelin actually recommends around 3 yrs only but based on my experience, 3 yrs is still reasonably good to use. Of course when you reach 4-5yrs maybe be careful not to go too fast. :)

same here... the 'bengkak' is like a plague... infecting one tyre to the next...

...now running goodyear duraplus (3 years) up front & dunlop sp (nearing 4 years) at the back... only the dunlop showing cracks and minor 'bengkak' already but the goodyear still ok, just the thread is less than 50%

gotta change soon...

Mine is about 4 years, but im driving like Ah Pak, max 130km/hr moreover my car is underpowered how to go more than that?

Making me worried may have to change all 4 tyres next year....:bawling:

As mentioned if doing 2 tyre change, fit the new one to the rear and let the old one finished off in the front. Putting the new one in front the old one becomes older only....:hmmmm:

Michelin mention 6 years life span can also mean storage?:hmmmm:
In use in our hot weather may not last that long, moreover if always park in hot sun, maybe even shorter lifespan.
