if for std pv6 gates should be sufficient, if for 6a12tt better go for dayco.

As my car is due to change timing belt in 20,000km and head gasket at the same time, i'm pondering whether I should do port and polish as well. How much gain can I expect from PnP?
Or looking for MIVEC conversion?

YYC, better use the funds to do a complete overhaul. if can at the same time do P&P.

If not mistaken, head gasket service interval is 180,000km. It's a must to change as its condition deteriorates around that age, coolant leaking into combustion chamber and overheat ensues are common symptoms.
Overhaul at 100,000km is unnecessary unless you have major internal problems like blown gasket, lost compression, damaged piston ring etc, however timing belt should be replaced before that.

kurt_629,
Port and polish is to grind the cylinder heads, intake/exhaust ports for larger and smoother airflow. This is a lot of works especially for twin head engine like ours. So I do agree with Danz, why not do a complete overhaul since I'm going to dismantle the engine anyway. But my mech told me an all new 6A12 engine just goes for RM4,000, that's an alternative worth considering.

if u experience white smoke emitting from your exhaust even your engine has warmed up then its time for top overhaul.

YYC,
sure bo rm4k for new engine, engine kosong edi rm1.5k. TT rm2k.

Yes, sure as eggs is eggs, complete engine with timing belts, all pulleys and stuff like that.

port n polish very subjective in term of pricing.so they take out the engine cylinder head.port is enlarge d tracts n intake holes etc.after that must polish to ensure smooth airflow ma.so ur engine can get more air to make more powderful combustion. and then the inner side is bling bling no carbon

Serious? 6A12tt, for only 2k??

I see, pardon me. I'm a newbie..

A question, if you spend 2-3k for polishing..
Why don't you use the money for a new engine purchase?

Just for knowledge's sake, I read that in port and polish, the intake port should ideally be polished and left with a bit rough surface while the exhaust ports should be better polished for a finer finish.

The idea behind this is that you will get more airflow with a rougher surface finish, this has to do with how the boundary layer acts in the port, in a very smooth port the boundary layer will sort of stack up on itself and reduce the effective port size while a rough surface will generate some small scale turbulence and keep the boundary layer smaller. Most good porters will leave the intake ports a little rough while the exhaust ports get a higher degree of polish, this lessens carbon buildup in the port.

if yours is manual, short can use pv6 ones. buy brand new i used CyCar brand (cycle & carriage) rm150 per pc. for the long shaft i send it for reconditioned for rm100 as its difficult to find halfcut ones.
lasted me more than 3 yrs till sold the car.

Thanks Danz .. mines is manual. So short is which sides? Driver side or the passenger side?

hehe.. u'll be surprised on how smooth 4G63T engine on high speed cruising. well at least my car la.. :thefinger:
quite rough on low speeds and acceleration but smooth during cruising.. :driver:

haha. neuro want ppl to join rvr club.:vroam::vroam:

i will be doing either top or major overhaul end of this year.
any performance item that can be changed from v6 engine to improve torque or hp? (except engine transplant, been advice so many time:banghead:)
currently only have air filter(NeuroOne keep for me ya),spark plug and piggyback in mind.
is it advisable to retuning the v6 engine at eon after overhaul or just do the dyno tuning?
