Hi guys,

I got a 'chipped' custom welded cam (australia made) and seek for advice if anyone knows any place that offer camshaft repair in Malaysia? Contacted MatSpeed but they can only regrind it back after the chipped surface have been repaired / welded again..

really appreciate if anyone can help me with info's :)

ohh sory.. i missed that line.. thought they can also do welding and then regrind camshaft..:banghead:

Yah! I was thinking of that too. How come can regrind but not welding, but could be two different specialty....:driver:

guys want to ask how to know that cam has been welded ?
another one what is different between hollow cam, solid cam, billet, forged, and cast any one can explain....

Solid cam means the whole cam is of solid metal and hollow cam means the center have been drilled out to lighten it.

Cast, forged and billet are the process. Cast means poured into a mold and cast out. Forged is different process using different material. The outcome is stronger. Billet process is to cut out the part from a solid chunk of metal. Base of material used this is even stronger.

Wait found this, my explanation not too good, read from here....
Billet? Cast? Forged? What does that mean?

in motorcycle modify world...welding and regrind camshaft is normal like eating everyday... :driver:

should be no problem doing the same on other vehicle camshaft too...

Even uneven surface of cam lobe can cause rubbing problem, creating excess heat to the engine. Worst case scenario is that the damaged part could chip off more....turn into metal chips to shavings, mix with your engine oil....and likely to damage other internal surfaces and bearings...
