Pros and cons of engine braking?

I guess you can say that you are not unskilled, just the car couldn't match up with your skill. Now, did you try again doing it on your Saga?

Looks like I need to go and search for Senna's video to learn.

Thanks for taking the effort to find this video. Seems like he din't even need to use his heel to do it. Pedal alignment for NSX is quite good too. He din't even need to press on the brake pedal hard to reach the throttle pedal.

thanks 6ue5t, this video will help many to get phd of manual trans.

Yeah learn from the best but actually there are tons of H&T videos out there, many with much clearer pictures.

No problem, this video is pretty famous so very easy to find.

Yes, just like I mentioned before, if the pedal placement is perfect then you actually blip the gas with the side foot without much or any movement of the heel. Obviously sports car like this NSX, Evos, WRX, etc2. are designed with performance driving in mind so of course the pedal placement must be good.

Speaking of evo pedals, I notice even CT9A series Evo don't come with aluminum pedals. They look just like stock pedals from normal cars. But in terms of alignment, I think they are properly aligned.

evo, scooby paddle arrangement and level is close to perfect for heel n toe, left foot braking etc etc....

but on myvi, especially with funny brake paddle feel, it was way off....

I have a 1st gen Myvi 1.3 manual at home. Don't mention the pedal, even the gear stick feels funny. I always can't seemed to enter the proper gate during shifts. Shifting has this rubbery feel to it instead of the more precise feel in Wira. Old Saga Iswara had a loose gear stick but at least I'm able to shift more accurately than Myvi...

Doesn't need to have fancy aluminum pedals la, as long as the placement is good enough. That NSX in the video also only had normal pedals. Aluminum pedals are just for show only and they actually can be slippery which is not good.

I actually thought that aluminum pedals are larger and wider, so it could be easier to perform heel toe with it since the contact surface with the feet are larger. You are right about slippery. Especially if coming into the car from rain outside.

Because those cars made for heel and toe, not Myvi......lol

Good point, although I can't say if these things actually help, but each to his own for sure. Pedal position does determine how easy it'll be on the foot but really isn't everything because the variables go way beyond just the pedals.

Pedal response is more a determining factor, be it throttle, brake or clutch. I would advise using whatever you have currently to learn to acquire a feel for H&T instead of looking at the pedals.

I am excited to see this thread grow or perhaps morph into chapter 2 where H&T enthusiasts can converge to spread ever more tips

If you're reading this and have concerns about H&T, please feel free to state them here, and let's see if we can break that barrier.

I am a big H&T connoisseur and love to help

here's my latest multi cam footage, please enjoy guys

Nice video bro.

after comparing videos, senna, tom, kurosawa.
i was wrong to focus on how they execute heel-toe. they have heir own style @ signature way.

the flow/synchronize of feet, hand, gears (before execution heel-toe) is same for 3 of them. Thats what i want to learn.
shoot me if i wrong.
Back to practicing..:driver:

Good observation there

That is spot on. The way the foot move is subjective.

It doesn't matter how the heel kick* the throttle pedal, as long as you can. Although the primary focus is always the brake pedal for obvious reasons.

*kicking / jabbing the throttle pedal is a trait of the H&T trade

Yes the synchronisation of the gear lever and pedals are all at the same time. The faster you execute the action the more accurate your revs needs to be. The slower your actions, the higher you need to blip.

This is the same with upshifting. The slower the acceleration needed, the slower the shift require to achieve seamless transmission in shifts.

i used to find a set of pedals (RAZO) whereby the brake has an foldable extended plate for heel & toe
but finally sold it off.

from tom's video. if i not mistaken. some gear shifting from 3rd-5th-4th. maybe my eyes. lol...
is not easy as ABC. u guys really sifu :adore:

I think it is a good way to learn on how to synchronize by practicing on rev matching first before moving on to heel toe? I've been doing rev matching since you taught me about it few months ago and now I'm getting much better at it.

Perhaps it is time for me to try out on heel-toe soon.

don't be intimidated, sometimes it just looks fast on video
H&T can be done in a slow and peaceful way as well.

great, good to know you've made progress. Now, all you need to do is add the extra braking step with your rev matches, good luck and do update us here

Thanks. Need to figure out a way to do it with the unevenly aligned pedal first. Or I should try adjusting my seating position too because I find it a bit difficult to twist and turn my right leg because I kept on bumping into the steering when I try to do so.
