What’s the deal?

Volkswagen has unveiled its flagship sedan, the B8 Passat today. Replacing the B7 sedan, the new Passat is locally assembled in the company’s manufacturing facility in Pekan.

3 flavours are available, comprising 2 types of direct-injection turbocharged engines. The base Trendline is powered by a 1.8-litre TSI, together with the Comfortline that sits in the mid-range. Topping the range is the Highline, powered by a 2.0-litre TSI unit.

The widened and lowered overall exterior gives the Passat a sportier and more dynamic stance. Despite being shorter in overall length, its wheelbase is extended by 79mm, thus giving a larger cabin and shorter overhangs. Bootspace is at 586 litres, which is 21 litres more than the B7 Passat.

The new B8 Passat gets standard safety equipment across the variants, consisting of 6 airbags, a Driver Alert System, ABS with Brake Assist, ESC, anti-skid regulation, hill-hold control and ISOFIX tethers. The Lane Assist function is exclusively equipped on the Highline.

VPCM announced that cars registered before the end of the year will be entitled to a 5-year free service programme.

thought the new Passat supposed to come with 10 speed auto gears?

Just wait in a few more years then the new price will drop to rm90-100k only.
Why not just use 1 type of transmission that's is more reliable, say the wet DSG type? Maybe typical Germans, always want to complicate things, or still trying to save the dry DSG?

2 yrs ago, i gatai go test drive passat. Nice, can fit me, wallet not fit ...aiyaaa
you on Drive, press brake, let go gas pedal. Car wont move. Dun need neutral or P at traffic light/ whatever short stop. For me noobs, is quite syok.
After test drive, take free gift. Cabut...:driver:

350nm torque why badge at 380?:hmmmm:

VW uses the 380 badge to indicate the range of torque the engine produces, globally. I remember during Jetta launch 2 months ago, VPCM personnel said that in other region where better fuel quality permits, the engine may produce up to 380Nm. So, it is likely that our Passat 'only' produce 350Nm due to fuel quality factor.

Huh the Jetta also produces 380nm?? Not 250nm meh??

The Jetta is indeed produces 250Nm, but the badge reads 270Nm if I'm not mistaken. What I'm saying is the same measures taken by VPCM (Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia), Jetta engine produces up to 270Nm globally, but our version manages about 250Nm, and for the Passat, the engine range could produce up to 380Nm while our version produces 350Nm.

They don't want to put different badges for different markets, so they uses single number for the engine, regardless of how many torque it produces.

Sorry for the confusion.
