All you wanted to know about the 1g engine. All are 1988cc, 6 cyl in line.

It had many variants, the first was 12Valve (2 Valves per cyl), SOHC, 1G-E
the 24 valve DOHC is 1G-GE (U)
24 Valve DOHC with turbo 1G GTE (U)
24 Valve DOHC with supercharger 1G GZE (U)
the 1G is engine series, and additional codes after that..
E - Electronic fuel injection aka EFI
G - DOHC 4 valves per cylinder
T- Turbo / Twin Turbos
Z - Supercharger.
U- catalytic converter
These codes apply to other toyota engines too.
