how to improve the performance of 4G13 stock engine

few emails and many WhatsApp messages to those selling suspension be it reputable/branded or chapalang.

only the chapalang show a bit of interest in giving quotation upon hearing my poor islala model and year.

1996 iswara really that bad? or the value of the product itself has surpass the value of the 22 years old car that don't bother to quote?

OUCH... hahahahaha...

hi gunnerz,

I'm looking at those as well. HNR just emailed n said no ARB avail for my poor islala... hahahaha...

UR racing ARB thicker than oem by 2mm only. thinking to put front and back. strut bar, put on hold as i'm afraid it will hinder the weber carb + k&n filter.

the oem spring + kyb abs... ermm... cannot tahan... like braving thru Mangkhut storm... asked KYB Pro but do not have any for islala.

saw other brands, Proride + 4flex spring, dunno how reliable are those...
I will keep the front ARB and add the rear ARB. Last time on my BLM i got 3 bars...front upper & lower, rear ARB. This setup is coupled with Proride sport spring on stock absorber. I got better steering response, high speed stability, and for sure better cornering. Now i'm back on stock suspension and minus the front lower bar.Reduced steering response but acceptable as daily drive.
Reminder : sport spring must go with sport absorber.

The front bar might not fit if your k&n is godzilla size in thickness. The webber itself is kinda tall right..

Proride....I was on Proride std type absorber for my waja all 4 corners. It was firmer than oe Kayaba or APM which i like. Now only the rear is Proride, front pair gave way after 2 years.mind u mine is the Waja 1.8 so its handling more weight at the front and i'm sure they (proride) design the absorber with only the 1.6 model in mind despite what the sticker said. What was the ride like...its slightly firmer if not the same with a BMW 320d.

4flex, i think they are famous for their flashy colour and free shirt only.

No commercial value to manufacture aftermarket product for that model anymore.

What u should do is drive your other monster to any performance shop, parked where the shop people can see and then only asked them what u want.

My own experience, last time i always plan to get aftermarket suspension for my Waja but after installing the front tower bar and lower 4 point bar i wont install aftermarket or adjustable suspension even if i can get them for free. The ride is already firmer than stock.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll give that a thought for my car. Adjustable seems a bit too stiff.

But then probably higher price quoted.......hhahahhaha

I feel you, like me I have an old Sonata 3 that need a new coat of paint but still wondering whether to do it or not as the new coat may cost more than the car.....lol

Thats because u r asking for your level of new coat....if ask for used car level of new coat then its cheaper.can last another 5 years if u rajin to wax and avoid long parking under the sun.

Dont go alone, bring along at least 3 friends driving their own monster. Shop owner will think 'i got durian runtuh today' so he will play it low to get the volume...end up just selling air freshner...hahahah.

gun,
the weber itself wont be too high. the k&n, is 57mm overall. let it sit on it then to decide on the strut.
quotation given UR bars arb front rm480 and rear arb RM360, the rear arb weld needed, same goes to front strut. meaning to say, it is not PNP. now i have my concern on welding as the product not cater to the car.

vr
to me objective actually pretty straight fwd. fix it to the condition i want it to be, at my own discretion on how much it worth to spend.
gxb kl don't bother to quote, telling me to some assosori shop in JB which don't bother to pick up phone. i gotten another wokshop, pretty decent and telling me that SS/SA series different only 30/15 steps. and price diff not much, both set above rm2k for sure.

t1ton no product for the model, given me other aftermarket brands

kxb rs pro, no production for the model

pr0r1de have the performance + spring, i think both combo rm800-900

Myself will also avoid bars installation if welding is involved. If u hardcore DIY kaki then can custom made rear ARB using construction steel.welding is required but on the bars itself for the mounting bracket at the spring cup.google for BLM rear ARB and u can see the construction is very simple.

Proride sport abs + spring should cost below rm800 parts only.

Depends also, used car level respray I have seen before pretty bad quality....lol

Here's how I improved a first gen Satria 1.3 EFI auto (previous owner's job) from an unbearable jogging pace slow to somewhat acceptable daily car :

1. Overhaul & tune the engine + bits n pieces replaced @ 850 rgt.

2. Repair/replc section of exhaust @ 200 rgt.

3. Replace bonnet (v heavy) with fibre @ 300 rgt incl installation.

Note : #1 & 2 are renewals and #3 modification. Total cost @ 1350 rgt.

just my 1 sen worth of opinions

1. if no leak, white smoke or reduce in engine oil, keep it simple, don't touch. rm850 pricing should be top overhaul + changing piston rings (without need to take out the block)
- is better to check ur spark plug, due or not? cable plug and distributor
- if possible ram the car to red line and clean up the throttle body

2. want to do, change the extractor till the nenas/flexi hose, from there onward using bullet and rear muffler at own budget. it is clear up the nose breathing system. wont get much out of it, but definitely lighter and more responsive throttle.

3. spend on fuel regulator rather than fiber bonnet. if want to reduce weight, mebbe driver go for diet or weight management much more worth it that fiber bonnet. kekekeke...

kekeke...

back to topic... suspension...

1. pro r adjustable, never heard, no reviews, rm790
2. d2 adjustable, dunno fake or original, rm1000

found 1 local brand, Ftuned RM2k... kekekeke...

some forumers keeping hnr coil, my sexperience with hnr back to my wajunk days, these sport coil even combo with short stroke dampers, the dampers itself not lasting.

maybe for this islala, just go for proride performance + 4flex coil... and see how it goes...

If u intend to keep this car till last rust and wiling to spend 2k ...try ftuned.

this islala servicing me and family quite ok.

apart from the leaking, air con not cold on hot day, etc... on normal point a to point b, it is ok.

ramming it up to 120kmh no issue...

initially thinking to plonk in 4g15 or 4g91, come to think of it... is better to fix the leaking, suspension, etc... until such time I tired of it, then I will change engine. now still waiting for the knn filter to put on the weber then transfer whole intake into my islala... when that done... this 4g13p more or less already at its 90% capability...

hardware on engine, I don't think much can be done... high cam 272 deg... wait till overhaul, then only will go for it... the rest... more or less at max capacity...

I personally want to try out the Ftuned... but lets see today 4D, kena... go buy Ftuned suspension and I will have comparison with, Tein street advance edfc, kw v2 and blistein...
