Civic radiator

that time i dont have knowledge about thermostat. so, just listen to what mechanic said. so, next service, will buy 1 and get it fitted. Is it standard thermostat for wira/satria right, doesnt matter 1.3, 1.5 or 1.6? I wana ask here first before consult the car sparepart shop, at least I go buy the thermostat with some knowledge. Mine is 1.6
The thermostat is there for a reason.....lol

the con of running without one is your car will take longer to warm up...
My previous 3rd car was running without one, not to say longer to warm up, but actually hard to warm up and if rain really cold......lol

ahh oil cooler without its own thermostat, same issue, takes forever to warm up in the rain

but if i go to spare part shop, asking for satria thermostat, it will be the same right all wira/satria model?
in case some model big size or small size, the same case with oil filter.

Thermostat should be one size, but Proton oil filter actually have big and small......lol

What sort of aggravated wear is incurred during the period when themostat isnt present?
pretty much everything in the engine since the engine oil never gets to properly warm up to optimum operating temp

Nothing that I am aware of.. i think the car has travelled around 5000km without thermostat until now.
it'll be a slow and painful death. Piston rings, valve guides, cylinder walls, etc. Unless the fella runs really really good oil la. Then it'll be a very very long but eventual painful death

Not unless he's the sort who warms up his engine slowly .. like 10 minutes before each drive

Not really. There are those who use thick oil like 20W50 or which kinda isn't that great when cold. Even the warming up process still starts off when cold so the quicker the oil reaches operating temp the better it is overall. If it takes longer the wear is still there even if the car is stationary.

ok yes... im also thinking to do top overhaul soon, seems have some oil leaking at the distributor area.
Distributor o ring enaf dee. If you are handy , you can change the thermostat yourself. Back in my proton saga days I was experimenting with drilled standard thermostat and SARD racing thermostat. I opened up the thermostat housing repeatedly and put it back lol..

not just that, some white smoke also coming out now. haven't check the oil reduce or not, will check when engine is cold this weekend morning. i suspect some reduction.
