Prosecution threat for inciting unrest on Internet
Feb 26, 07 3:24pm
Malaysiakini

Malaysians who post clips of motorbike gangs performing dangerous stunts on the Internet will be prosecuted for inciting unrest and taunting police.

Deputy Internal Security Minister Fu Ah Kiow said the authorities would crack down on such postings on YouTube and other websites to deter Malaysians from using the Internet to stir up trouble.

"Action will be taken against these people ... We have to stop this now as others could post more harmful materials which could threaten security and racial harmony," the New Straits Times quoted Fu as saying.

"This is seen as provoking the police," he added.

Malaysian authorities have launched a crackdown on motorcyclists who flout the law, especially biker gangs known as Mat Rempit, who are considered road menaces.

Fu's comments come in the wake of increasing government concern over what it says is abuse of the Internet.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi earlier this year accused Malaysians of using the medium to spread lies and unfounded allegations about him.

The premier has also defended a move by the government-linked New Straits Times to sue two bloggers for defamation over a series of articles critical of his administration.

Truth, lies and the Internet

Media watchdogs have slammed the unprecedented lawsuits as assaults on freedom of expression on the Internet.

But Fu said Malaysians must be educated to "differentiate between truth and lies on the Internet."

"We are not out to censor the Internet but those using the cyberspace must realise that they can be prosecuted for abusing the Internet," Fu said.

In a separate report Monnday, the New Straits Times said police had confiscated 1,122 motorbikes after their owners were found to be riding without valid licences, road tax and insurance coverage.

Police said 107 of the 183 people killed during a nationwide road safety campaign for the Lunar New Year were motorcyclists, the daily reported.

What's new? So many issues have been deemed to 'sensitive' to discuss and this is another one of them. The problem has been that such 'sensitive' issues have always been swept aside and not dealt with. When will they ever learn? I assumed we get smarter as we evolve.

even buildings or projects which has government interest in that also deem as ISA top secret...
*haizzzzzzzzzzzzz*
It's not that by not posting the videos or pics in the internet; we don't know about this issue...
what's so secretive?
Malaysia oh Malaysia

WHAT?????!!!!!!

How does posting Mat Rempit stunts on youtube have anything to do with inciting unrest and taunting police? Seriously people in other countries have to see this Mat Rempit phenomena since "somebody" said a while back that Mat Rempits should be an attraction in Malaysia......

very "brilliant" minister with very "brilliant" police (eat my ass)

if there is no mat rempit, where the heck do people able to upload those shit? these are similar with accusation of the whistler blower case happening in the Parliament, stupid dumb ass minister!

Bloody fools. If Pak Lah is oh-so-righteous and did no wrong, step out in the light and show it to us. Using "ban this" and "ban that" clearly shows that he IS IN FACT, guilty of those rumours and lies. If you did nothing wrong, why would you need to ban this and that? Cowards.

Threaten social and racial harmony? The govt and those with authority are the ones who are a threat to racial harmony. It is very clear what they're doing of late and it is clear that they're provoking racial slur.

Ya. Those guys have chidlish mind in dealing with problems in this country. This makes me always think that they don't really know the truth like us as the citizen. And then doing the inappriate actions.

Seems like every now and then each and everyone in the Gov is having a try to shoot themselves in the foot or rather put their foot in their mouth... So who's next?

With the rate of this is going on Bolehland, this initial apa pun Boleh gov later apa pun tak boleh but it was never Boleh from start boleh cakap saja...

Cakap apa pun boleh
Buat apa pun tak boleh

'uckin brain in the ass gov

OSA ...ISA... ucking bull

Why don't they close down wikipedia as well. Lots of information about racism in Malaysia. Just search under racism and u can find our proud nation's name.

The reason we can't discuss sensitive issues is because certain Neanderthals cannot deal with it. This explains the media blackout whenever controversial issues are raised. Certain people just can't handle criticism or being questioned.

one more reason I suppose is because they don't want our shame to be broadcasted to the whole wide world.........

the thing is the whole world does read all this. they just dont want us to know that. they want us to think that everyone looks upon us as a great nation.

They forgot about globalisation la. The world has become a very small place and it's almost impossible to hide dirt anywhere. Just look at the Clinton and Monica scandal. It took only one man and the Internet to expose it.

Those ppl in high positions should realise that it's powerless to stop these facts of life from spreading. Curbing it by force is the LAST thing they want to do cause, throughout history, if you ban anything using force, more of that thing will happen. Just look at the CNY celebrations.....ban firecrackers my foot!

Unfortunately, I doubt that the world looks at us great in any way, other than easy-to-get girls and food. Oh, and everything seems cheaper for the foreigners who come here due to the exchange rates. hahaha

Oh well. Can't seem to do all that much by myself unless all the citizens stand together and go against the govt.

So, anybody wanna go for early breakfast this saturday morning? hehehehe
