A member of the Swedish forum “M5board” who goes by the alias “Balazs” posted a set of images from a serious car crash he had in his M5 Touring this past July. According to Balazs, the accident occurred on the autobahn when he was travelling at about 180 km/h or 112 mph. After hearing a loud bang from the right side, the car went out of control spinning sideways at 140 km/h or 87 mph. It hit the roadside barrier several times before flipping over two times and coming to a halt.

Luckily, neither Balazs, his wife or his 7-month-old daughter that were on board that day got hurt (not even a scratch!). Police and tyre experts later confirmed the accident was caused by a puncture to the rear right tyre. A tiny little hole, that let the air out slowly, then the inside of the rim cut through the tyre, that's when all the pressure was lost suddenly. TPM (Tyre Pressure Management) did not give any warning whatsoever though and the car did not behave in any strange ways beforehand!! Experts said these kind of puncture accidents have a 70% death rate of at least 1 person...

Balazs did some short consideration with his wife, and decided to get the same car - different color.

this is just jaw dropping. speeding at 180kmh and flipped and sideways.. he is very lucky to walk out unscratched.

on the other hand, that's seems to be a good 5l V10 front cut.

for that kind of class and considering the high price tag of the car, the safety equipment BETTER work.

looks like the car in Germany is very chip. once accident the owner can buy another car. wow. luckily hes still alive to bought another car. wow

khehh..cmon dude,it is M5..dun think its cheap there. but this guy can afford it.

yeah i was about to mention insurance. Tak kan ppl buy expensive cars no insurance. What cheap cars pulak.. But damn, M5 Touring is just a family monster.. Already sat in the sedan and the M6.. incredible performance

airbags and WEARING the seatbelt saved their lives.

a bit offtopic, but many of us dont bother to wear the seatbelt (heck, the polis dont even wear em at all)

ur driving a tin can unrestrained. how can u survive a crash? ive been in a highspeed accident, and the seatbelt helped a lot.

having airbags helps, but the primary safety device is the seatbelt.

agreed wif u, seatbelt gift ur 2nd chances but wif this luxury wagon cars sure the safety built in more help u if involved in acident...nice car lol..

An extra point to add to bien335's post. Seatbelts AND child seats saved his family's lives. Now we know some Malaysians don't make it a habit of wearing their seatbelts all the time. Now how many do you think use child seats for their little kids?

Looking at the damaged tyres, i bet the car was driven with side wall damaged previously (likely under inflated for quite some time). the owners then probably didnt take much notice & kept it inflated back to normal thinking it was alright.

when i was a kiddo, my dad sat me in a childseat. US regulations LOL.

my baby cousin rides in a badass Recaro childseat.

Malaysians tend to think, oh, its ok. Just a short trip to the store. U never know buddy. U will never know.

Heck, some dudes even let their kids sit on their lap while driving. Idiots. Not cool.

the M5 has TPM, tyre pressure monitors as standard. he wud have known if the tyre was under inflated.

the tyre in the pic if im not mistaken was the blown tyre that caused the incident.

damn, a rollover at 140kmh. not cool either
