What does "dog" mean in "dog engagement gearbox" and "dog clutch"?
Sites that offer racing gearboxes use these terms as if they are household words with no explanation offered. What are some advantages/disadvantages of a dog engagement gearbox?
How much the Different between Dog engagment and Synchronizer engagment?

Erm , does dog box means you can shift the gear without the needs of stepping the clutch ?

And dog box saves minimize the time by having not to press the clutch

of course. change gear without shifting. only first gear need clutching, BUT how the system works due to design of the engagement? i blank just for simple dogboxer without sequencial. i think it is more complicated in ultimate dogbox + sequencial shifter......

wow...nice price ler....:biggrin::biggrin:
syah dealer dogbox from ausie???

dog box. if you noticed the gears are all straight. our normal gears are slunt for smooth shiftings. they are straight like our reverse gear. hence the crunch and the wee wee sound like you reverse your car

dog boxes contain custom straight cut gears which are cast differently and much stronger than factory gearboxes .. ppg in australia make good dog boxes .. they are commonly on race cars .. not easy to use like a factory g/box .. they wirr and crunch !!:)

the gears being cut streight has nothing to do with dog engagement, if you look closely, synchro has a 1 to 1 lock up, meaning needs to be precise to lock up. dog engagement on the other hand does not. their teeth are like so far apart which makes it easier to lock up with a positive thrust/push.
don't mix up straight cut gears with dog engagement. they are different.

straight cut gears are stronger and can withstand higher torque n power from the engine... and it is louder compare to helical cut gears...

advantage of helical cut gears is dat they have quiet operation....

i not sure how dogbox locking mechanism works though... any sifoo willing to share some thoughts??..

dog boxer dont use synchromesh as engagement. but it use simple bigger dog teeth for engagement. dogbox can come in spur gear (staright cut) assemble or helical cut gear. but of coz staright cut gear are much stronger than helical. millennium motorsports one of the dealer of the best dogboxs from ppg australia (ptizner performance gearbox). u can choose to buy or order customize dogbox for any car..
for any evo, skyline, s15 n some sports car they jave ready made that cost around 18k - 25k. u can also order the ultimate dogbox that come with sequential.

Hi there,

dogbox need a good driver in the car actually...consistency is the keyword...

there is a few type of shifting...Manual and Auto...rules of thumbs, you have to release the engine load and free up the dog before up shifting to another gear...

for downshift, you perhaps need to double declucthing....free up one clucth press and another clucth for downshift.

Simple, think it's motorbike....

Normally people use flatshifting (full throttle shift) with one sensor on the clutch paddle...means when the clucth being press, automatic ignition cut been set to unload the dog.....

Or Strain gauge on the shifer...apply the load to the gear stick and strain gauge will automatic cut off the ignition...

or manually,,,,lift off the paddle to unload the dog...then faster upshift the dog....

The photo was a B-series dog gear.....we currently importing the dog gear from PAR Engineering AUSSIE for honda and Mitsu engine....

How much for B series engine?

Hi There,

It really depending on the requirement...this is so far the most largest dog profile (i mean the gear teeth) for B-Series..

PAR able to supply 1-4 +reverse

or

1-5 + reverse...

1-4gear + reverse = less than 20k (depending on AUS currency)

This gear has been tested on B-series with N/A and Turbocharge (so far tested on 1000whp CRX) with no problem...

Can customize the specification based on your requirements...

Call me as we can chit chat....019-3383080

thanks akukeng.... still need long time to fund this 20k for the gearbox... hopefully will achieve it one day...
U using it now??? how its feels???
