Hi guys, Im running a stock AE101. and my shocks are starting to thump. Checked them and found that they were slightly leaking.

Any good, lasting shocks to recommend? I dont want Kayaba or original toyota kayaba's as they tend to leak slightly after 1 year.

I was thinking about these few choices:
1. Monroe Sensatrac (heard that its not that great anymore since it is made in Indonesia?)
2. AC Delco (recommended by mechanic. Price wise its very cheap. about $170 per pcs only.)
3. GAB adjustables (a bit pricey but at least it is serviceable)

My aim is to get a comfortable ride without too much body roll.

buy used kayaba new sr or tanabe sustec wagon..
if more budget go for tein, cusco, section..
never think about local GAB
GAB = Give A lot of Big problems!

Agreed with AE101-Wong. I am using the Kayaba New SR with Apexi Spring. Very comfort.

And also never trust local GAB. You will regret.

im trying to stay clear of used absorbers, unless if they are easy to service.

What about non-adjustables? just normal absorbers. any brand to take note of?

bro..plz don always think that the used absorbers are rubbish..
as so far those kayaba new sr in the market hardly ppl say they are giving problems..
the new kyb new sr selling RM3k plus, now used 1 they selling from RM700-RM800 are very reasonable..
u want those servicable but cheap 1 = NO ONE
for adjustable all are servicable, juz for JIC and HKS hardly can get the spare parts only..
tein and cusco are very easy to service, and their price is not that high also..

and if u insist for brand new absorber but not local made 1 i can suggest u the japan made kayaba or tokiko, bigger shaft, expensive abit, around RM250-RM300 per piece...
life span wise.....hemmmm..friend bought brand new and lasting for 2 years only..
but now my fren changed to kyb new sr, used condition, use for 3 years still giving a comfort + abit of sporty feel

how bout bilstein b6 or TRD fixed rate absorber. Thou a bit expensive but it has a better durability. I ve heard from frens.

Ori Blistein B6 absorber for AE101? They have it? If yes, I also would like to give it a try as I heard it's a good absorber. Anyone know where to get it?

Since you are able to locate this 3 only, i would say the Monroe is a good one. Didn't give me any problem (family's kenari) for 2 years + already.

It's cheap, not mistaken around 5-600 for a whole set. Best part of it, it's 'New'.

sil80-13,

i ve found out that i was listed in the bilstein australia catalog, so it should be available...price wise i m not sure....as my local dealer still have refer back to the asian region ofis in singapore. that's all i know.

i always tend to try things differently so here's my suggestion: use oem toyota shocks and invest in strut bars and ARBs to reduce bodyroll bcoz those bars will last forever! :)

i used Titan Adjustable absorber for my seg, it's superb. 2 years warantty and free service for that 2 years. now changed car to altis, installed the same type, worth for money.

high low with soft hard. the soft hard will be tuned by them according to ur taste. they can custom for any car. no probs. superb. actually this is my third set with titan. first was when i'm using Toyota SE then my seg and now my new baby Altis. price RM2,900.00 but u can talk to richard and wai leong (owner's son) to reduce a bit.

the comfort setting actually up to u. if u wan comfort they can do for, my advice take medium setting as u can use for family and whack corner too. their set can be used till u sell off ur car as long u maintain the service. just do the service at least once a year enough. whole service will cost u bout RM300 ~ RM350 after warranty expired. warranty is for 2 years. why don u go to their shop and have a test with their car. contact number Mr richard 013-3506561 @ 03-42979878. good luck bro

Medium setting? Haha I tried that setting but when drive from KL to Johor I feel like vomitting when I reach home after 3 hours

Hey bro..sorry but i tumpang my question here..

I drive an AE111.. whenever I go around 130-140kmh or more and depress the pedal, i can hear clunking sounds from the back. I can confirm that my shocks are still good and wheel bearing has no freeplay (using the good old jack n shake method).. How can I confirm that the absorber top mounting is failing coz usually they last much longer than the front ones? My front ones are still good..

thanks!
