need advise, AE111 98-99 or City 00-02

in the look out for 2nd hand car for approx. RM30k - RM32k. so far i've shortlisted to only 2 models

1. Toyota SEG AE111 yr 98-99
2. Honda City yr 00-02

would love to hear fr. sifu here...

1. cheap, reliable, no gearbox prob for manual (i doubt auto has major prob). potential future upgrade (4age BT/SVT MT/AT). need to do some repair/overhaul on body/engine parts since it's 10+ years.

2. comfortable, not sure about upgrades. perfect for travelling/daily rides. but watch out for GB prob. almost 10 years car (H.City is well-known potential GB prob). GB prob can cost u around 4-5k (recond GB) or ~25k brand new GB from honda SC.

Are you sure about the gearbox thing? honda city 2000 is using normal gearbox not the cvt

well, 1 of my fren H.city 1st model GB can't shift up during D... lol. maybe he's just unlucky (he bought used car though). just a precaution la. i know CVT gb damn kacau compared to non-CVT... maybe my fren is having a tough luck.

Basically I don't think you're asking the right question since both cars are not in the same segment (AE111 1.6 vs City 1.5).
But being this is a toyota thread, expect almost all replies favoring the AE111 though ;)

AE111 more solid than the city, fuel consumption better than city abit..
