What is Banana in other term beside the fruit banana?

Banana meaning a person who can't speak their own dialect.

For an example, a chinese he can't read or write chinese, but at least he can speak.
Some even worse, can't speak, write or read at all.

I think I'm half banana :D

I still can read some chinese words. Both parents are Hakka and Hainan people. I hate hainan dialect, thats why I never bother to learn. I like Hakka but can't speak much.

I speak:-

1. Mandarin
2. Hokkien
3. Cantonese (not bad, but sometimes rojak with english or I just use hokkien if the communication about to breakdown :D)
4. Hakka not so good.

The only sentence I know in Hainan is .. 'Yan em hai yan, kwai em chi kwai' (Cantonese), 'Lang bo ti nang, kui bo ti kui' (Hainan) ROFLMFAO!

same here. but i cant order food or communicate with mandarin. can only scold bad words.

speak fluently in cantonese and im quater banana coz i dont know how to read mandarin but can comunicate with mandarin speak ppl!!!

ahah....same here ler... i used to speak cantonese in ipoh but when come to mlk, people say i'm a banana coz i cant speak mandarin... so what's the problem??... ipoh people many also cannot speak mandarin mah... we use cantonese as our daily language...

i got a friend last time in sunway c. he is a baba nyonya. he cant speak not a single word in chinese. his language at home is malay. pity her mom lah, coz her mom not a baba nyonya.

My father is Hakka and my mother is Hainan ! I can't speak proper mandarin and can only speak simple cantonese. I talk English with my parents, very seldom use chinese.

almost same here... cannot read or write... but can speak a little lar... those normal normal conversation can handle... when comes to hightech mandarin literature typed cannot handle... haha...
