Auto Shanghai 2005

The 11th Auto Shanghai (Shanghai International Motor Show) was held at the
Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Pudong Shanghai, from the 22nd till
the 28th of April 2005.

The bi-annual event saw over 1,036 exhibitors from over 26 countries
participating, easily filling up the 120,000 square metre exhibition ground.
Visitor’s numbers totalled 390,000 people, making this year’s show the largest
to date. All the biggest brands in the automobile industry made their presence
felt, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Buick, Lincoln, VW, Audi, Ferrari, Toyota,
Honda, Nissan, you name it and they were there, including all the local Chinese
car manufacturers. An interesting sight for all visitors as car manufacturers
spent countless amount of dollars designing and building impressive booths and
trade stands, which not only highlighted their vehicles but also the attractive
models. Toyota had over 23 vehicles on display, and General Motors brought in
over 40 different models, leaving visitors gawking in awe

The show also played host to numerous new car launches including the world
debut of the sedan version of he Chevrolet Aveo, and the new Ford Focus.
DaimlerChrysler celebrated as well with the Asia premier of new cars including
the Mercedes Benz CLS. Koenigsegg unveiled its mid-engined V8 CCR model, where
only 200 units will be built. The car currently holds the Guinness Book of
Records for being the fastest production car with top speeds in excess of
387km/h. Another interesting car on display was the Spyker C12 Laturbie which
drew a large number of visitors. Then there were the usual Ferraris, Porsches,
and Lamborghinis and so on as well. This year also saw the participation of
numerous design firms, proudly displaying their full-scale concept models and
designs, which added to the already interesting sight.

Not forgetting one of the main attractions of the Auto Shanghai 2005, the
hundreds of beautiful models accompanying the cars on display. There were models
next to cars, inside cars, and in one instance on top of the car! Trying to
attract as many visitors to their booths, exhibitors switched their models every
now and then, providing visitors a variety of eye candy.

The Auto Shanghai will be back again in 2007, and I can’t wait to see what it
has in store for the automotive world again. Enjoy the pictures ladies and
gentlemen.
