Id back this up. I also drive ye ol 1ggte in me Yoda Chaser. Last week it rained super heavy and as usual it was flooded along Jalan University just at the junction to head off to Fed HW. Id say the flood was about 1-2 feet 'high'. 4WD had no problems passing tru but a new Saga was stalled at the side...I also had doubts if i can make it but decided to try my luck and braved the flood. I maintained 3-4K RPM and went tru. Initially the engine felt like it was going to die, proly due to the water entering around the engine bay. The engine water temperature had dipped immediately and the engine was running roughly for the first few seconds. But eventually it just ran smooth again after about 10-20 seconds.
