Economical Cars

i'm driving savvy AMT myself, pumped in v-power since day one, got average of 450km per RM60 pumped in (sometimes up to 500km), driving style = attacking (not makcik style), 80% in D mode (automatic), average speed 100kmh, 30-40% through jam area (kota damansara & LDP).. the best handling on its class (though i think you might not care much), you said fugly, i said myvi fuglier.. kehke  anyway, your money, your choice.. visit savoc dot net for more info on savvy.. cheers :itsme:

My LMST RM 80 = 480 km drive @ RM1.92 per liter that is. :bawling:

I think you better get Kenari lar, suit you all way round.
not fancy, cheap maintenance, Low FC and best of all, it's fun to drive.
Once I saw in a british car website that says "forget all green cars, kenari seems to drive without fuel" lol.

Eh...y all of u forgot ther is still Proton TIARA??Not bad wat,no temperature meter..

My Kancil 850

100% Stock stendet

Full tank from empty, 20 litre (@RM1.92/Litre = RM38.4) City driving = 300 km

If hiway cruising, about 350 km.

My Kriss Modena 100cc kapchai

Full tank from empty about 4 litre, can last for 150km. :)

Thats why I'm getting darker and darker nowadays.

Hello again,

LuKa,
Don't think I can get a Vios or City below 2 years of age for below RM50,000 right? Well, I'd look around for them while I'm still finding more info. Any idea whats the consumption like for these 2 cars?

cchcchcch,
Mind to let me know the consumption for City?
Which one saves more fuel? The i-DSi model or the VTEC model?

croomaniac,
Just saw a batch of new Savvy on a trailer. They're white in colour and with bodykits and if I'm not mistaken, the roof is black in colour. Those look real good from a glance. Are those normal Savvy with bodykit or some special edition model? So far I think Savvy gives the most mileage between the cars within my budget. Will drop by Proton showroom for a test drive soon!

jeanloo,
I think Kenari's consumption is around the same as Kelisa right? Read somewhere that Kelisa's consumption is almost the same as Myvi.

Civic-R,
I'd rather spend the money to repair my Sunny than buying a Tiara. Good for nothing kinda car

Joeker,
Is your Kancil automatic? That kinda saves fuel for a carb engine if they are auto. Did consider getting a motorcycle as they are a so much cheaper to buy and move around but I might not have lived to enjoy the money I'm trying to save

Myvi or Savvy loo bro...But Myvi is much wider, from exterior look laa...
Furthermore, with a lil bit touch up on Myvi, very damn nice look...

Savvy is an excellent car- it has the power of Myvi and is a fuel miser like Viva..hell much better than viva cos it has 4 cynlinder engine, much solid chassis, much better R&H...very stable at well over 130km/h...drives and corners better than myvi.. has much less body rolls.

Go and test drive all these cars and you'l know better.

There were a lot of misunderstandings about Savvy before people said it's very expensive to maintain cos it has Renault engine..That is totally not true at all..It's quite cheap to maintain and reliable..already 2 years down the road with mileage near 50k km ( everyday never fail to start the cars many times, didn't break down, no rattlings or noise so far)...There're many owners already went over 100k km their savvy, didn't report any major probs...

I spent RM40++, RM90++, RM200++ and RM200++ for my 1k, 10k, 20k and 30k service at authorised SC...didn't send for service at 40k, decided to use my own oil and service myself, that's how I put a great trust on its reliability as the warrranty is till 50k km only.

My savvy MT could go 500km with a piece of RM50 note, going through towns, federal roads where the speed is not constant from 80km/h to 130-140km/h...with R3 sport exhaust muffler and open pod air filter mods.

With proper from a full tank to full tank calculation for town drive, it gives about 14-15km per litre. I usually fill RM10 and it lasts me around 70-80km. I'd already foresee long long time ago petrol price would increase to RM2.50, so i think I could still fill RM10 for my savvy when the time comes hehe.

Check my mileage when I went to Cameron Highlands and all the way up to Gunung Brinchang.
http://www.motortrader.com.my/asp/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=15337

My recent trip a total of 1552km used up 93.5 litres of petrol only!

Just some reference about the spare parts price...it's not that expensive..

Oil filter OSK, Filton brand - from RM5
Air filter OSK, Filton - RM16
Proton fuel filter - RM30
Spark plugs Champion, Bosch, NGK - RM15 per piece
Front headlamp- RM200 per side
Tail light clusters (w/o bulbs) - RM145 per side
Shock absorbers front - RM120
Shock absorbers rear - RM80 ( can use Wira's shocks)
Suspension lower arm - RM145 per side
Timing belt kit, Proton 60k km and dayco/Gates 100k - RM320-380
Head gasket - RM16
TDC sensor - RM67 only (1st batch Savvy need to buy shunt cables cost RM200)
Clutch kit Aisin brand - RM300++
Brake pad Bendix metal king and proton's made in UK - RM92-132
Proton brake shoe - RM105
Driveshaft complete set - Rm300++
Side mirror - RM94
Ignition coil with cables - RM320
Front bumper - rm166.
Rear bumper - rm159
Front and rear wheel bearing - RM50-30

Labour to replace timing belt is only RM80 at at any cherry tree mechanic ( at proton is more than RM100++, the engine is a simple design any people can do it..cost to do top overhaul, replacing the head gasket, valve seals and cleaning is only RM400++...if the mech trying to bullshit you saying savvy spark plugs need special tool so want to charge you extra, holes are too small (indeed it is small), boycott him..I managed to change plugs myself using a simple tool, a 14mm tubular wrench..should cost RM8 labour if send to cherry tree mech to change the spark plugs.

The concern is AMT cost but you won't expect advance transmission like Honda's CVT fails in short time rite...many AMT users clocked more than 100k km already in 2 years, so far no much probs..only sensor related issues which need some cleaning.

Seems like Savvy is one hell of a good deal.

Sorry bro, when i type Kenari, I actually meant Kelisa. But both car share about the same FC. I also did a survey on economical and practical cars and basically Kelisa and the Savvy is a good choice. From what i read in the forums, both car share about the same FC.

Myvi FC is definately higher than Kelisa. Since the Savvy got 4 cilinder compare to 3 from Kelisa, the engine shouild be quieter than Kelisa. Kelisa is one heck of a fun car to drive, don't know bout Savvy though cause haven't test drive any yet. But from all the forums that I have been to, owners have only praises of the Savvy, seldom see any complain.

I really regreted buying the Merdeka Saga.

Hello,

hypermount,
Wow, you sure know a lot about the Savvy!
Thats one hell of a good mileage but most of them are on highways.
Seriously considering the Savvy now and HOPEFULLY those bodykit shops will come out with neat design-ed bodykits for Savvy (especially the rear!).
Now, the things that I don't have trust in are the Renault power plant and the AMT transmission. Unlike Proton, most of the parts are compatible with Mitsubishi (which is one damn good point!), what makes is the Savvy compatible with? Its all about the power plant reliability and repair/parts costs, thats my concern (since consumption is really good already, that point is out of discussion)
One question, have you tried the Myvi? Which car is more spacious? As I've heard Myvi is really spacious for a car its size. Just wondering how a Savvy fare to the Myvi.

jeanloo,
Yeah but I don't think Kelisa fits 4 adults comfortably. As my parents are in their late 50s, I'd want them to have comfy rides. Such good son I am

Btw, anyone has any idea about the Waja 1.6 auto consumption?

Waja??? Heard from friend, its suck...dont know bout the fuel consumption, but I drove my friend's waja, its handling quite good...

im not reali sure about the actual $$$ fuel consumption of honda city idsi....
but im sure honda city idsi.....more save than V tec....
betwen....vios vvt-i , city v tec , jazz v tec...
city idsi is most save petrol...even the toyota sales man also tok lidat....haha

What u mention is correct but maintainance is also higher than Vtec coz using twin spark..hehehe

go for persona

a base line model cost you 48K on the road.

very comfortable for 4 adults, especially long distance.

1600cc DOHC engine. 110bhp may not be much but more than enough to pull with 4 adults in.

2600mm wheelbase. spacious cabin. huge boot.

for 48K, we get:-

1. power steering (compulsory, a must)
2. all round power windows
3. auto door lock
4. remote alarm and immobiliser
5. reverse sensor

no alloy wheels, but so much the better. we choose the design we like at tyre shop.
no electric mirrors, but how often use adjust the mirror? unless we share the cars with someone else
no folding rear seats. not really necessary i think. unless, wnat to make love in the boot.
no rear disc brakes - neither myvi or savvy have
no fog lamp - fog? where??

when it comes to resale value, this car is already a good buy at 48K. some more 5 years warranty. this makes the car very economical to run over long period.

myvi 1.3 EZ - 46K
myvi 1.3EZ'i' - 49K (yes, 'i' stands for airbag and ABS)

savvy AMT Lite - 36K.

but really, in small cars all passengers must sit uprite. like in a bus. some more kenot stretch legs. long distance sakit woo....

then remember, when we have 4 people on board (average added weight 200-240km) a 1.2 or 1.3 engine wont have good torque like a 1.6 as pulling power and this will sacrifice fuel consumption.

road tax for 1.6 also only RM90 per year now. cheap.

and last but not least. myvi comfortable ride like persona, but poor handling.
savvy have good handling, but not comfortable as persona.

If you would like to buy a brand new car that is economical u have to factor many things, such as , how much is the maintenance fees every months, fuel consumption, resale value, etc etc

I dun think that Persona is an economical car in the long run

just my 2 cents

Strongly agreed......:burnout:

Anyone driving a Persona 1.6 Auto? What is the fuel consumption like?
The thing that don't get me considering the Persona is that, I used to drive a Wira 1.6A and the fuel consumption is really bad for an engine that can't even touch 100whp. Wouldn't want to regret buying the Persona.

Savvy has many good reviews based on SAVOC site but I find that the car is too small to travel in comfort. Well, thats just what I see from the outside. Will be going for a test drive soon.

Myvi has all the good points EXCEPT that the fuel consumption is not as good as the Savvy. Other than that, I feel that Myvi is the winner.

Viva is a nono I guess, the car is totally too small.

Kenari is kinda narrow too...no idea on the fuel consumption though. Havent check the K2OC site
