i bought my this baby when she was in the fresh launch in oct/nov of year 2001 at RM 85k la...now rugi...

this car is under power n fuel consumption very high..... n now the market price so low....really pity the ppl who bought it.....

If I'm not mistaken, the Spectra underpower because of it's heavy weight.

if not mistaken it's only 1.2 ton.....
wira is around 1.1 ton
not consider heavy but the design makes is look very heavy
mayb bcoz it's solid....not like local cars...hahaha

bro. remove ur cat converter! that day went to Wei Yip puchong. one of the worker.. showed me 30pc's of cat converter from spectra. he said remove it and u will feel good! .. i dont know how good it is.. but 30's piece lying on the ground. should be sumthing different rite?

true removing the cat u can feel u throttle is lighter....now u step on the gas pedal but ur car dun move rite...once u took out u can feel the difference...not only spectra....all cars from a-z....
cat converter is for environmental friendly shit.....full of restriction inside...

The solid feeling that makes it felt very heavy. :_:

i dunno bout spectra coz it's locally assemble...but sephia is fully import from korea....the car is quite strong...

The Sephia was one of Kia's early models in Malaysia.
However, I prefer the Spectra's appearance than Sephia.

ya...one of the earliest in malaysia....
but sad....too many probs for spectra....especially the gearbox....my fren's 3rd gearbox now got prob occcuring d...lucky for the first 3 times coz got warranty....now warranty finish d.....die...
my another fren's dad bought spectra n drove only a few months....sold it away....FC too high...underpower.....

Essentially, all Korean cars have this problem. Maybe our local fuel doesn't suit the ECU's original programming?

Probably.
Hyundai Matrix and Atos owners were complaining about the same problems regarding the fuel consumption was poor too.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY
1.6 liter MI-tech DOHC engine
The powerplant of the new SPECTRA is a revolutionary aluminium-alloy 1.6 liter, 16 valve MI-tech DOHC engine that boasts up an aggressive 108ps at a torque of 14.6kg. It pushes a top speed of 186km/h...easy. Outperforming most cars in its class at fuel saving consumption of 8 liters per 100km.
This newly developed aluminium -alloy powerplant is a fuel-efficient 16 valve dual overhead cam.

From Kia Motors

Fuel consumption for the Spectra is said to be RM15.36 (RM1.92 per litre) for 100km.
It's only RM0.1536 per km.
That's considered good for a 1.6l.
What FC does those Spectra owners got in ZTH?

The KIA Spectra (See http://www.kia.com.my) is not 1.2ton but the kerb weight is actually 1,590kg. For comparision, the KIA Waja (see http://www.eon.com.my) is 1205kg. This is a difference of 385kg. Divide that by 60kg per person (average) that equals to 6.4 persons So, a Spectra with 1 driver in weight can be equal to a Waja with 6.4 person in it, driver included. So it's understandable that Spectra's FC is on the high side. Then again, generally, the heavier the car, the more comfortable the ride.
