hmm...been lookin at gettin a new tv for the room...so many choices  which brands/makes are good value for the buck? what abt those china brands like those from carrefour or tesco ie. clatronic/gc etc...anyone had experiece with them? i heard sony's not all that great in terms of picture quality...worse still with their expensive price tag...so pour some reviews in!!

A/V Electronics in Msia, always go for the trusted japanese brands.

1. Panasonic
2. JVC
3. Toshiba

European brands are equally as good but usually with a higher price tag, eg Philips.

But if you have an absolutely no-limit budget, maybe Bang & Olufsen? :D

Get Pioneer Plasma TV, GOKEN has a bought 2 sets a few months back, very very nice.

haha yea way over my budget...a 21" will do...just wanna get some reviews on which brand's best...

Actually... those budget Japanese brand all Made In China one... makes no diff buying OEM brand also.

My Sony WEGA 29" bought for RM 2,100 at Carrefour 5 years ago is the same as Bruder 29" (also bought from Carrefour at RM 1,599!). Everything looks the same and feels the same. Remote function / design also the same.

I suspect Sony OEM'ed from a factory in China to save cost but sell it at a higher price because, "It is a Sony". :D

ah, that's where you are slightly off... the Japanese (and Korean) giants are indeed moving their plants to China because of cost issues.

but the QC still remains japanese and a lot of these plants are merely assembly plants. most of the components are still individually manafactured in Japan, Korea and yes Malaysia.

Panasonic is still very much top of the line in terms of bang-for-buck A/V electronics, while JVC and Toshiba are a close behind.

FYI, Philips are now active-partners with LG in many A/V products especially the Flat Screen LCD market.

brands..hmm...let me see..

In the market now, the so called malaysian made or china made TVs are all using three main PCB solutions. Philips, toshiba and sanyo. Philips is the most expensive among all so obviously very limited manufacturer is using that solution. Toshiba is the most popular among all because the image is clearer compare to sanyo solution while the price is at par. Due to that sanyo is now out of the market.

If you are going for 21" i would suggest you go for the pure flat. The reason the so called NOT BRANDED TVs are less reliable is because the market is flooded with recond CRTs. PPL always want cheap maa...Recond Crts normally are only available in normal flat or super flat. Pure flats are not old enough to be recond. so if you are not sure how to identify a recond and non recond tube, just get pure flat lar..

when you buy also make sure that you select the the TV with toshiba solution. You will know its toshiba by pressing the menu button. the ones with little windows are all running with toshiba 8821. so better to pick that than a left over sanyo solution model. :)

so...have faith in local made products...shop wisely. :)

hey guys where can i get widescreen tv, apart from Sanyo? the sony is too expensive RM9k

I think 29" tv's offer great bang for the buck these days. If you are going for flat panel tv's however, try to go for LCD instead of plasma. LCD tv's offer more advantages compared to plasma tv's.

i just saw in carrefour, GC 29inch RM599 only. flatscreen C 29inch RM899 only.

cheap laa....if can last 2 years also damn good already. eheheh.
thinking of buying la.......

goken....wahhhh, your maid so lucky. your maid's old tv i bet must be a 80inch projection tv. can pass to me la...i help you get rid of your old stuff. :D

gti88...wahhh...so bouncy la your signatures...my eyes keep jumping one....:D :D

hmm...looks like panasonic's a favourable choice...oh and any idea of where/how to get rid of your old tv's then?? no point keepin 2 rite?

hmm....
recently, i bought myself a 29" malaysian OEM brand, have been using for movies n PS2.... Nothing happen la....

Last time, i cant accept those brand but why dont give it a try? Right?
If I really have MONEY, i will consider the new Pioneer, because it is the BEST so far in among all plasmas or Lcds or any la....
