New Automotive Policy

CBU vehicles still sold at old prices

KUALA LUMPUR: Completely-Built-Up (CBU) vehicles are still for sale at old prices following the tax revision announced by the Government two days ago.

A check at several car showrooms here yesterday showed that dealers were still using the existing price list for imported motor vehicles as they had not received any instructions from their respective headquarters.

“We learnt about the new tax structure for CBU vehicles through press reports but have yet to receive any new price list,” said a sales adviser from Desa Seri Hartamas here.

Another car dealer in Petaling Jaya said he expected the new price list to be out by the end of the year.

“It appears there will be a slight price reduction for luxury cars but customers must be prepared for a slight increase for multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) and vans,” he said.

He added that the tax structure for CBU vehicles announced under the National Automotive Policy (NAP) would benefit automobile companies who set up assembly or manufacturing plants in Malaysia.

“Some Japanese and South Korean models are sold at much lower prices here because they are assembled locally. We believe there will be more of the popular foreign vehicles being assembled or even manufactured here,” said the dealer.

Another car dealer, however, felt the NAP would only benefit local car manufacturers but would not have much effect on prices of imported vehicles.

“If there is a price reduction, we will try to maintain the existing price by including additional accessories and improving after-sales service packages,” he added.

On Wednesday Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said in a statement that import duties on CBU vehicles from Asean countries would be reduced to 15% from 20%, and from non- Asean countries from 50% to 30%.

the import car business is monopolize by a group of big shots....

they are businessmen so...its always easier for a businessman to increase the sales price but when come to reduction...ahem...really need to depend alot on the business ethics..

have you ever see any significant price reductionon the monopolised goods in the past 10 years???.....when cost go up they will be the first to shout for price increase but when the price come down that time?? diam diam only.....

global petrol price is falling now...HK petrol companies has reduce $0.10cents/litre but still kena ppl tiu....but in msia I dun think we can never see the 10cents decrease.....

If the tax really decrease then maybe you will hear the businessman saying something like" with more accessories, labour cost is increasing la..bla bla bla..." then the price still remain almost the same....

LEts see how...

shees...

wow.If it is then shit lor. Dun ever hope its going to drop then.

But then, somemore our PM's statement wor...how can he make this
statement if there's no agreement among the groups.

Any idea ?

I agreed with links.....they never think to drop the price unless some law imposed to them...otherwise ....you want it....pay for it ....they never care about consumer right....coz malaysian consumer power is slowww maaa....lembap....

Unless the AP open up to more people...if not no competition so those importers wont care to decrease the price...tax reduction will just make them grow more fat becoz their cost is lower but the selling price still about the same...

you see..when the petrol price hit USD$60++ per barel then petrol price go up..now fall until USD$50 something then you see them quiet like hell......so when increase to USD$60 something again they will shout for increase again...oneway traffic only up no go down...
Also maybe those petrol companies are giving excuse...you know many petrol companies purchase the advanced stock ahead for 3 months to 1 year..so the price increase in global petrol market wont impact them so quick......

consumer in msia are really pity....hope the G can provide more help to balance the market...if not the wealth gap will be widen....
