Hi guys,
Just a quick update. I took delivery of my car a week ago and was told by the car dealer that the previous owner had already taken care of the timing belt. Mileage of the car was 95k km.
So I took the car up to Ipoh for a weekend trip and while cruising along the North South expressway, the car just suddenly lost drive at 80km/h. I heard a clunk and the car just died immediately after that.
It was the worst day of my life. My wife was in the car and the highway was reduced to two lanes because of the construction work. There was no emergency lane and I had cars honking at me as they nearly hit me.
I could not get the car restarted as I suspected it could have either been timing belt, ECU, a jammed throttle body or a fuel pump failure. In the end I managed to get in touch with the car salesman who asked me to wait while he checked with his boss. At the same time, a tow truck operator came by and towed my car out from the highway as I didn't have an option on whether I should have it towed back to KL. He charged me RM 100.00 for that short distance to his workshop.
The salesman then called me back and informed me that they will arrange for a tow truck to to my car back to KL to have it checked out. It was really the longest day of my liife. I was stuck in Tanjung Malim and my wife wasn't too pleased with the whole situation at all. We were supposed to spend one night in Ipoh before heading up to Penang to attend her uni mate's wedding dinner.
I only reached KL at 6.40pm on Saturday and the car dealer had already arranged for a Hyundai Matrix as a loaner car. At that time I wasn't too sure if the car's timing belt had snapped.
I just got off the phone with the salesman, who informed me that the timing belt had indeed snapped. What I'm more interested to know is, if the 3S GE engine is an interference or non-initereference type engine?
