Auto Trader has teamed up with data specialists Spyder Automotive to develop the UK's first used car desirability index. The index correlates new car sales against searches for the same model on autotrader.co.uk. To be included, models had to be on sale from the end of 2000 to 2004 and sold at least 5,000 units in that period. This left a total of 120 models. The results show that there were 310 searches on Auto Trader for every Toyota MR2 sold in Britain during 2004. At the other end of the scale, there were only 3 searches for every Vauxhall Agila sold. Desirability Index Top 10 :

[font=Arial, sans-serif]ROUND 4 24th July 2005[/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Round 4 was run off last Sunday with no incidents with the exception of the small problem over the tyres. A small point of clarification. It is the understanding in the motor industry that all road tyres sold in this country carry E and/or DOT markings as these are the standards that are used to indicate compliance for road use. We were unaware that some tyres are being imported from Japan with only JIS markings as they are manufactured only for the Japanese market. These same tyres are also sold in the USA with DOT markings. This is what caused the confusion! So in the future all tyres used in this event must have the following markings:[/font]
Entries were much better than previously with a total of 24 with 4 Kancils making an appearance and a return of Mac Chun Hui. The Lotuses were back in full force but this time they had to contend with the determined efforts of the Toyota MRSs driven by Johnson Tan and Dennis Loo. “Tree Hugger” Mickey Teoh came back even more determined to put up a good result with his MR2 and this he did, however losing out to Marcus Chye by only 0.404 points for 2nd Overall position. One should have seen the bowing and scraping in the paddock after he put up a blistering time of 66.645 secs in the first run of Test D which was 2.045 secs faster than Ivan Khong in the Subaru WRX. Ivan however came back to avenge that by still beating him into 3rd place in the final tally. [/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Class 1 below 850 c.c.[/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Only one entry in this class in the likes of Stanley Tai. Unfortunately he had to pull out after Test B with transmission problems. Apparently his LSD wanted to go in a different direction.[/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Class 2 851 to 1000 c.c.[/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Also one entry in this class and Chau Tau Koon spent the day chasing himself with very good times. He actually ended up with a better result than the Class 3s and finished 11th Overall. A very creditable performance and we hope to see him around more often.[/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Class 3 1001 to 1300 c.c. [/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]This was an interesting class as there were three turbocharged Kancils fighting with Ian Khong in a Wira. Ian’s determined driving put him easily at least 3 seconds in front of the fastest Kancils but it was fun listening to those small engines winding up and down the rev range. Rumour is that Ian’s times were so good because his tyres were worn to slicks![/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Class 4 1301 to 1600 c.c.[/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Four entries in this class led by Julian Pang who decided to forget timekeeping and get into the action. Hot on his heels was Ho Wai Kok in another Wira. Rickey “Cone Hugger” Teoh turned up with his Toyota Starlet all set up for drifting (although he said he had very worn tyres in the rear) and he proceeded to show some of his drift style round the course. Unfortunately drifting does not put up good times and we are sure that he will turn up with the right tyres the next time.
Julian had a “ding-dong” battle with Wai Kok throughout the day and took the class prize with 0.19 points to spare. We can expect to see more from these two in the next round.[/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Class 6 1801 to 2000 c.c.[/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Only two entries in this class with Mac Chun Hui in his Putra more or less dominating Nicholas Teh’s Putra. Both were running for the first time in the series this year and we look forward to seeing them around for the next round. Mac’s brother, who shares the car, was also missing and we also look forward to seeing him too.[/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Class 7 Sports Cars[/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]This class that has been the domain of the Lotuses has since the last round had a cat let loose among the pigeons with the entry of the two MRSs of Johnson Tan and Dennis Loo. This has made the class more interesting as the competition has hotted up and everyone is pushing harder. In this round Johnson emerged as the victor with a total score of 292.613 with Mohamad Hisham in an Elise with 294.647, a difference of only 2 seconds after 8 timed runs! Johnson made a couple of wrong slots during the day but it can be seen that he is getting the hand of things and in time will be quite fast. Hisham has been in all rounds except Round 3 and is also steadily getting quicker. This should be an interesting class to watch in the future.[/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Class 8 Open[/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]This class has been Marcus’ domain and even with Mickey’s best efforts he will not be able to be unseated. Marcus moved to this class from Class 7 and one can see that this is becoming the “big boys” class. Marcus for this event apparently was running some crappy tyres dragged out from the back of the workshop and this did not do much for his times, although they were still quite fast. It would be interesting to see how the full-blooded rally cars perform here and one also looks forward to seeing some “specials”. As this is an open class, anything goes, even an F1 car, but not karts![/font]
[font=Arial, sans-serif]Generally, everyone went home on Sunday tired but satisfied. For those who read the zth forums, one would have read many of the comments both from drivers and spectators and the KKS hopes that we are doing is what the “grassroots” wants. The dates for 2006 have already been released but remember nothing will move without sponsorship. The 2005 series has cost the KKS nearly RM 15,000 in losses, and that came from our own funds. So if you like what we are doing, help us by introducing sponsors so that you will be assured of a full 2006 season.

[font=Arial, sans-serif]We can confirm that the next and final round for 2005 will be held on Sunday 11th September at PA 1 Car Park, Sepang International Circuit. This is a larger area than Shah Alam and the tests are more open with higher speeds. Those of you who competed in the Asian Autocross Championship in 2004 will know what it is like.
