Weak battery and grounding kit

Hello, my dad has an AE92 corolla, 4AF engine, carb. It's ignition system is quite weak. Lately we noticed that the battery is leaking charge. I was wondering what are the possible problems? If it's because of the old cables, would getting a grounding kit work?

Do you mean not holding it's charge? How old is the battery? Maybe about to konk?
For ignition system weak, can add a relay use direct current from battery. Did it for my dad in law 20 years old Ford Laser, but fitted by my mechanic.

a grounding cable wont work.....as vr2turbo, add a relay...i also done that on my ride.

We have a Vios at home, bought 2 batteries for both cars at around the same time last year. So when the AE92's battery was weak, we swapped it into the Vios and took the Vios's battery and placed it into the AE92. Now it's weak again. So somewhere it's leaking charge.

Add a relay? Can you provide more info e.g. what is a relay and how does it work, how much does it cost? Thank you!!!

Tell your mechanic, he should know how to add relay. Actually there is a kit for it, not too costly. Cannot remember the price as I did it quite long ago. Anyway, the price not be the same by now.....

Quicksilver dude, here's some things to try :

1. Startup the car and let it run idle. Disconnect the battery with the car running. If the car dies off, your alternator isn't charging.
2. When driving the car around with the aircon on, lights on and ICE on, do you get dimming lights whenever the aircon compressor kicks in? If yes a grounding kit might help.
3. A relay kit costs less than RM20 to buy and DIY install is a 20 minute job max. Comes with a bunch of thick wires and one relay. Hook it up to your starter, your battery and connect the relay, that's it. Helps when the starter isn't enough to crank up the engine. I needed one for my car when I swapped to manual (for some strange reason).
4. Monitor the voltage on the battery with the engine idling. Should be in the range for 12.5v plus minus 0.5v max. Accelerate and monitor again, 14v plus minus 0.5v. If idle voltage is low your battery is dying. If accelerating and it's low your alternator is dying or dead.
