Dear bros out there, i'm kinda desperate of help regarding bout which engine oil to use. I've been hearing which brand is good and no good.

So, since here is the best AE92 enthusiasts I ever came across my mind then I really know advices and opinions from all the bros here.

Situation::

My AE92 is original, no mod at all. Ori engine. Been using Penzoil Engine Oil for some time, kinda feel the FC is bad. thinking to use Castrol. Mostly 20W since its already 20 years old :/.

Recommend me please brooooos ~~

try using castrol magnatec 10w/40.
bout rm85-88 per 4L.

try using VOLTRONIC... made in German,,,,
my experience.. engine feel light,, resposive ,, better FC
RM105-4L

I use 10W40 Mobil 1 Super 2000 :) RM95 4 litres .. semi syn .. my st171 also 20 year old yo :D

original engine but what's the mileage? sometimes semi-syn may be too 'thin' for a 20yr old engine. unless you've have overhaul it or all the oil seals are still good.

magnatec has many imitation in the market since long ago, just be careful when chosing any on the shelf sir

all my cars at home are on Q8 Advance 10w-40. never had problems, no tappet issues on the mitsubishi engine, been that way for years now...

Cheers

Been using Idemitsu for my AE92 since I bought it last June 2010. Car runs smoothly. this engine oil costs me around RM90 with filter, and engine can run up to 7,000kms.

Always check ur engine oil if using magnetec 10-40.
previously i had experience that oil dried.
:driver::bawling:

maybe there's a leak somewhere. sometimes it pays to duck under your car to see what's going on down there :hmmmm:

thanks alot bros !!

my mileage currently bout 500,6740 like that, thats from wat i remember.

redsider : kinda true, my dad ae92 leaked due to AC pump kong

bros, since u guys says there are magnatec imitations..how to see if its ori?

I would suggest Eneos 10w 40...Not bad so far using it... very light. Heard TorqNM is good as well. Not sure of the price.

Personally, as long as it is a high quality oil like a semi-synthetic from one of the name brands, it should be fine. I have a AE 110 and i always use a semi-syn like Shell. Always get decent milage as long as oil change is regular.

first thing what bothering me is, thinking will 10w oil will be too thin for me or not :/
my engine oil just overdue yesterday and ya i heard of Eneos before. good respond?

btw, after double check with friends. they happened use castrol engine oil till dried up, still in doubt cuz not sure is qualify problem or its imitations problem. Thanks alot bros !!

any more opinions willing to give me this noobie? I will appreciate it very much !

10w will give u good viscosity in lower temperature conditions. like...in countries where it snows..

as far as i'm concerned, u can ignore the W part and look to the other number. You mention that you've been on 20w castrol, I'm only gonna guess that its Castrol GTX 20w50 mineral oil. with such high mileage, have you noticed if your engine is consuming oil in between services? There may be next to no visible smoke from your emissions during the early stages, so have you been checking your oil level on the dipstick often? If it hasn't been dropping at all, no burnt residue on your plugs, u can try any oil that's 10w40; Eneos, Q8, shell helix (15w40) even petronas syntium 800 i can vouch for.

however if there has been even a light loss of oil...stick to 20w50; shell, catrol, whatever. just service your car on time. and stay away from those RM30 oils...could be recycled for all you know.

Cheers!

Bro tks:

That Idemitsu oil that I have been using is 15w40. I check oil level on the dipstick every 2500kms. I can see that after 5000kms, the oil level decreased a bit. Is it really normal for a 15w40 7000kms oil engine to decrease a bit after some time? my Bigport engine is quite an old one, but I've never seen any white smoke come out from the exhaust during driving or even when speeding. plus, there's no weird sound from the engine so far. FYI, I always maintain changing the engine oil at 6700++ or 6800++kms (I always exceed 7000kms for less than 3 months).

good morning, fellow insomniac.

IMO, on a perfectly healthy engine, oil levels should not drop noticeably at all when u check the level on the dipstick. Its simple, oil circulates around your engine, goes up and everywhere, comes back down to the sump and the cycle continues. If some is missing, where did it go? 1) external leakage; gasket, oil seal, etc... or 2) internal leakage; piston rings, valve seals, etc.

as far as internal leaks go, in the very very initial stage there may not be any visible smoke/deposits. My KE70 as one example. For the longest time this car has got an oil ghost in it. Earlier on the bigport, eventually started spitting white smoke when pushed hard through the rev range, blow-by gasses seemed to be stronger, and next thing u know i'm replacing hardened valve seals on the engine. Same thing happening to my GZE now, oil going missing nowhere, but finally again, same thing happened.

Cheers.....

Thanks Bro tks. Guess I have to go for a thorough engine check. I might need to change some things in the engine

I just realize the car in question has more than half a million clicks on it!
That's probably why it has poor fuel consumption. I wouldn't worry too much about the oil weight to use with an engine that has that much milage.

that's why i love my Toyota's. half a million kilometers on the clock and still going strong! Got a camry that's not too far off that mark too... :proud:
