What MTB to get with a budget of RM1,500

Rock Machine - Heatwave 70 Looks Good

So actually, which brand in terms of MTB is the better ones? Is Raleigh good enough?
Well, usually is what we pay is what we get I supposed.

For me, just a ride at the park or somewhere on the road will do.
Bro, this Heatwave 70(US company made in China) cost RM1k only, you can look it up at Mudah. When you call the towkay he will say this one no good then he will recommend you XDS instead which is a China brand.

Guys, I will be moving to Shah Alam next year and was wondering are there any good tracks for MTB there. If just normal road then I will just get one within my budget. If got lot's of place for terrain riding then I may think of investing in a more expensive one. Hmmm Shah Alam as in 5km radius of Monterez(near Jelutong).

Looks aside. Usually the frame will outlast all the other components in the bike unless you are a 200 pounder. Problems always lie in the moving parts which are the components of the bike. Usually I would go for the following by priority: drivetrain (derailleurs/gears, cassette, shifters, cranks, chains, cabling), brakes, wheels, fork, others.

Jelutong Shah Alam is close to the Guthrie highway. This highway has a motorcycle lane all the way to Rawang. So it is pretty safe for a road ride. Don't ride at night alone - at least in a group of three for safety. Guthrie highway also intersects Elmina B/C estate. So there are some good and fair amount of MTB trails there from beginner to intermediate. You can do both day/night mountain biking there. Since the access to Rawang is easy from Jelutong, there are plenty of riding trails there too.

I thought the Guthrie Highway more for the racing bike gang because on road mah! My ex-colleague joined this group and they do this highway and the highway to PutraJaya also.

Hmmm unless can find kaki there la right? Very few bicycle forums around. I search here and there most are not active but cyclist quite many during sundays.

Once you join the gang, they will inform you of the timing of the rides, but he did give me warning, that they ride pretty fast. Took him quite a few months to practice and catch up.
Even the senior veterans rides faster then him because they are season campaigners....

Before joing a group I guess must trained first If not malu only. Lol. Ok I search and search came out with another RockMachine

The spec looks good. Over my budget already but below RM2,000.

You can go to Shah Alam bike park, Putrajaya Challenge Park, Kiara or FRIM. :) PCP is very fun and easy on beginners, you should try that. Kiara is more technical.

what eohl said is correct. That's one reason why Giant can keep their bikes at an affordable price. And their frames are bombproof also, trust me, my first bike went through loads of jumping hell. :P

If want to join Racing bike gang must equip with Racing bike already. MTB different group. With the wider tyres more resistance, bike also different weight.

Racing bikes are not for me. I have phobia of traffic. When i drive on trunk roads i see too many senseless riding(motorcycle/cyclist) which are accidents waiting to happen.

That is why this gang chooses the unused road like Guthrie Highway. Used it a few times going North to Sitiawan, almost empty every time even on Sundays. They go in groups at planned times.....

No problems riding on road with a MTB on Guthrie highway. MTBikers and roadies respect each other. You can buy slick or semi-click MTB tires for road and light gravel. MTBiking is all about being versatile. Think F1 vs WRC. Rally cars can go both on road and off-road but not the other... Although you can't go fast, the additional weight compared to a road bike will strengthen you. It is not all about speed. Sitting position is also more relaxed. You don't have to train hard before joining a group. Try KLMTBH - KL mountain bike hash club which organizes bike hash runs once every end of month. They have chicken rides and the long rides - cater to lots of people. Try to search/find people of similar levels to enjoy riding. Have fun.

ha! ha! was just mentioning about my ex colleagues group. Of course when new a few will slow down to accompany you, but most of the time they are pretty fast...

Yup, is just a normal route some hills slope damn steep one...some really have to push bicycle up instead LOL!

Can, but I'm afraid those bikes might trash us first instead

Is about RM3 - 5 for the bikes per hour I think...I remember I ride for
about 3 hours is like less than RM15. RM5 or RM8 for better bikes,
can't remember. Other than cycling there are those extreme games there..

Is very tiring. They have other things like swimming pool, Paint Balls and etcs.
You have to spend at least one whole day if u want to get into all the activities there.

(2nd Link see if any girls you are interested in )

The girls look ok. No, I mean the park looks ok:biggrin: Should be fun cycling there. No mentioned whether we can use own bike or not ya? Ya la, their bike a bit the old fashion right? Hmmm I have heard of Bukit Cerakah many years ago and have not been there. Didn't know Malaysia also got quite a nice park. Pity that one have to pay to get in.
Went to a bike shop at Bukit Mertajam just now and look see look see some bike. Got Bianchi brands but a bit on the high side about RM4,000+ equipped with only Shimano Deore. The guy showed me another bike a Polygon also equipped with Shimano Deore that cost RM1,750 but seat hard as hell.
