Old School Cars Discussion

Maybe this Evo 3 location is more efficient for cooling.

I see. If for coolant, I know certain cars have their coolant bypassing the throttle body. Apparently is to prevent the throttle from getting stuck in cold/freezing climate. If so, it is useless for our place and it gives me problem when one of the hose to the throttle body leaked out all the water from my radiator once.

ATF cooler runs on a separate line compared to oil cooler isn't it?

yeah atf cooler runs a diferent line, soon as someone asks in the group why atf ade air inside, you know the blardy radiator has rusted and sprung a leak.

ATF and radiator are linked?

there are car design using rad to cool down ATF, but i dont think they share the same fuid. On seperate loop within the radiator iirc.

Evo3 oil cooler place at that place due to the front bumper design, which promote good air flow at that region, but i saw some mod fan bracket for oil cooler.

In a way, is it like the coolant passes through the ATF cooler to cool the ATF?

So, Evo 3's oil cooler is there due to the large opening of the front bumper. Then how about Evo 1 and 2? Still same like Evo 3?

yup..same method of cooling, only differ is, instead of separate rad for ATF , it is shared with rad.

I believe so still the same, apart from engine differ for those evo's, aero design on evo3 just promote air better. but sadly, perdanalution with evo3 front bumper does not look nice. :smokin:

Custom made Evo 3 bumper for Perdana? I don't think that shape will suit the car well...

So, now we can probably conclude that 4G63T definitely needs an oil cooler for cooling. I think we left out the 4G63T in RVR. Not sure do they have it or not since they are detuned. The intercooler for RVR 4G63T is also very small and they mounted on top instead of front.

Seen some put oil cooler at the front of bumper.

Thats why loh....4g93T many mistake as gsr rs, due to front mount IC in halfcut shop. Which original is libero, or lancer. With puny IC hidden behind bumper. :smokin:

Not a good idea. If stone, rock or any object hit your oil line/hose when you are driving, all your engine oil will leak out from there. For show car, maybe is okay but for daily driving especially on our kind of roads, better not.

It could be that the ex owner in Japan swapped for a larger intercooler.

Yup, end up i widen the gap on left/right hole so more airflow = high speed cruise.

RVR iinm does not come with oil cooler, but no harm done if you add one.

yup that too. but terkena batu or any object, then bocor, GGWP:nurse:

I see. Perhaps RVR doesn't run in temperature as high as those in Evo or VR-4.

Is the atf running into the radiator to be cooled.....lol:biggrin:

Are you sure it is "cooling" down the atf fluid? hahahah the rad itself isn't very cool too.

cam ni....

well.... if im not wrong, the running temp of the autobox is about there, so unless the car is overheating, aint really an issue i guess. On the plus side, i guess the atf would get warmed up faster upon a cold start.

I'd like to think of it as keeping the atf fluid temp stable instead of fluctuating rather than cooling down :smokin:
