hi everyone...i m new in this forum...i got corona st171(3s-FE) auto..now,problem is difficult to change gear and underpower...

And i planing to replace halfcut.. after i surver in internet and halfcut shop..
maybe i will choose
1)3s-GE(red-top beams,ST202),manual,N/A
2)3s-GTE(st205,st185),auto,turbo

can give some info for this 2 engine..like maintance,spart part easy to find or not?

i just looking gearbox auto trans st171 ... gearbox+torque converter = RM1200. torque converter = RM250.. hurmmmm

ST171 is front wheel drive....u can't fit altezza in it coz it is a RWD car.....

All ST185/205 are 4WD turbo manual...no auto...

he said 2.0L power ma.. hehe

so, i just need to confirm the things i should buy/modify..

the mechanic said need to get the 3SGE & a MR2 gearbox.. also need custom made drive shaft..

any1 can confirm this?

is it recommended? any future problems?

my choice now is :

1. 3SGE (no preference.. pls advice)
2. 4AGE blacktop 6speed

My advise is NOT to use the MR2 gearbox because it's so troublesome to custom drive shaft when original 3SGE FF gearbox or ST171 Corona gearbox is available.

If you're getting a halfcut, gearbox is attached, so why get a gearbox separately ? Is yr mech talking about 3SGTE ?

The 3SGE to get is the 165 ps from the Celica ST182/3, 180 ps Celica ST202/3 or 200 ps Beams from Celica ST202.

You're talking about transplanting the 3S the into a yr Levin body, right ? Mounting are different for the 4A & 3S. As far as I'm concerned, my understanding is that you must NEVER cut away yr original mounting & weld in new ones. What you can do is fabricate an adaptor to mate the mounting of yr car's body to the engine's. That is acceptable to the authorities.

As far as I know, all the 3S mountings are the same. So far I've used 2 models; the 165 ps & now Beams.

which 1 i wan choose...
