airtrek having temperature issue

If I am not mistaken when Ah Wah checked last time, it starts the fan only at 90c. I do not have a temperature meter to measure that, Ah Wah used info-display to check.

bro, why dont you try to play with the fan settings in ecu? especially the stationary fan speed setting, if it works, might help during hot days

As far as I know, the fan controller cannot be reflashed/reset. It's located near the fan motor and the whole module needs to be changed in order to activate the fan at a lower temp. Ah Wah told me this actually.

I dunno about the setting in ECU... any others can comment on this? Or perhaps I understood wrongly from Ah Wah?

tested. it is controlled by ecu and can be changed.

test was done on stationary condition, warmed up the engine until around 88c (which is the lowest threshold on the ecu for the fan settings).

my stock fan setting in the ecu only will run the fan once the temp hit 94c, which was correct, neither the fan were moving around 88c.

then i changed the settings to run the fan once the temp hit 88c, and confirmed; the fans were moving.

If only you can remap for me ... *sigh* thanks for the confirmation bro.

i didn't remap it ~ cos after 2 time i change the fan control ~ i give it up and unplug the Earth cable of the Fan remote . now Full Blast all the way .usual water temp 70 - 90 . been using it a wile with out fail . once i read from a forum , some one unplug it and run 5 years without failing .

hehe full blast might be overkill overhere, weather is cool all year around, between 5-20c. only some days during summer are hot.

Which wire to unplug? Fan motor will die prematurely right? If u drive at highway, it's still running n waste electric wor.

Fan motor will die slowly . Mine already use for few years. I can't show you the pic now . But as I recall its the brown color wire . It only will eat up you electricity when you only push key to step 2 ignition key with out starting the car . In Malaysia it's better you let the fan go full throttle cos of our weather . Plus 2nd hand motor only cost you rm30 or less each .....
Using 68 thermostats , ori radiator and 1j fan motor (cos the fan still at the ori location and with big E9 turbo )I still get 78-90d

I did the same or sort of by wiring both the fans to ignition. Thus whenever I turn on the ignition, the fans will be running at full speed, keeps my turbocharge engine cool. The downside is it will be a bit noisy but hey at least I won't be worrying when or sudden fail of the fan control which will result in catastrophic engine overheating and failure lol. As for the lifespan of fan motor being shorten by it, well all mechanical parts will fail in time, the only difference is how will it fail, the consequence and cost of replacing it. So speaking, I rather replace a fan compared to doing top or full overhaul in case the engine overheated.

The fan motor is expensive. I changed mine last time n it was almost rm300. Can either 1 of u show me the wire? I agree that it's good for Malaysian weather. Thanks.

I didn't diy so can't help u on that. I'm sure any foreman with basic knowledge of car wiring will know how to do that. Regarding the fan, just go to any halfcut shop and get a replacement fan for less than a 100 bucks, why the hassle to replace the fan motor? Lol.

Half cut shops motor r still used ones. I wanted new n changing the motor with old fins is almost new entirely in terms of performance. I refused to use half cut engine mountings n MAF sensors too. U never know how long they'll last.

Thanks for the info bro.

I was referring to the radiator and ac fans only. If u are a car enthusiast, u will know which parts prone to break down often, which part is crucial and which part can be salvaged economical and yet be reliable. Anyway your ride your call.

i have no choice to use the 1j fan motor , cos my turbo it's to close tot he ori fan motor . plus i dont wanna cut my front bumper bar to fit in the Evo fan .
here's the blue white wire , you need to unplug to let it run freely

I'm referring to the radiator fan motor too. Are we talking about anything else? It's yr ride also, I've nothing to comment if u wish to used old replacement parts for yr car.

Great. Thanks for the info bro.

i'll second to that... on hot weather, i would only tweak to run the fan (or increase the fan speed) on stationary or cruising low speed, i'd leave alone the settings for high speed drive.

The problem is .. At hot weather like in Malaysia , the fan control might only last 1-2 years .thats why the last result is to by pass the fan ctr
