I want to connect my portable mp3 player to my sony car player, issit as simple as buying an auxiliary cable to be connected to the input, just plug and play ?

how much does the cable cost ?

help is much appreciated !

Sony do not have AUX IN.

My old Aiwa CDC-MP3 does (also made by Sony).

U can get audio to the Sony in 2 ways...

1. FM transmitter
2. Cassette adaptor (if it is a cassette player)

Quality from both devices is so-so. FM is the worse unless u take down the antenna.

Not many HU have aux in.... usually only highend models have it.

My player, I use the AI Net to AUX In.

Sony Hu does have an auxilary in. One example is CDX-V5800.
The only difference is, some HU use another auxilary input adapter, some uses RCA (like the sony one above) and some has minijack input.

So, just provide us the model name or you can refer to the product manual itself. I don't have aux in jack, then can use what acbc suggested.

plug it direct into a pre amp if you hav one... i am using a lappies in my car as my player in this way...

How much does a low end pre amp cost ? This pre amp is mounted under the passenger seat ?

Low end pre amp can be around RM200 or below. Look in the marketplace or lelong.com. This way, you can use the aux in on the pre amp to connect your device. Pre amp is normally mounted on the dash. I have seen some mounted near the driver's left leg portion.

hopefully u can test before u buy, these low end pre-amps can cause a lot of noise sometimes...

pre amp is known as an equaliser as well rite ?

im using sony m600 , issit worth it to buy just a pre amp to hook my mp3 player ? or ill get better sound quality ?

Your player can only play audio cd? Doesn't support MP3?

a preamp would not give you better sound quality

unless its a high quality one like from Audio Control...
