When my car was being dismantled while doing a gearbox change project, we found this at the intake air pipe. Between the air filter and throttle.

There is a hole that connects into this black hollow box. It's just hollow without any mechanism. What is the function? :hmmmm: Add resistance to intake air???

can u circle the part? so we can clearly know which part u r refering to, tq

hole a?kasi angin masuk maaa.
i thinkla usually pcv gas will enter the hole thus makes ur tb drity.put a OCT between the cam cover/pcv outlet and intake hose.

that hollow box acts as a reserve air for ur engine.... without it, ur car will lack of throttle response....

this is air resonator. the main function is to reduce the air filter sound when u run high RPM or wide throttle mode.

Hi bro... Sorry didn't circle it earlier... But do you see the air intake pipe? It is the thing like a box bulging out.... :burnout:

Icic... So it is like an air that is readily available once you step the throttle right? Thank you thank you...

Resonator? That's new... But isn't resonator suppose to create sound?

Veloc, try replacing with a straight pipe of the same diameter of your intake and see if you feel any difference or not with and without the reserve

intake resonator box....to reduce roaring sound of your intake...

can read more here>> AutoSpeed Blog

*yes resonator create sound....that works by cancelling intake roar...(more like a sound collision to cancel each other)

:adore:

Haha... thank you people for the inputs... Next time when I use straight pipe will update on if there's any difference...

Okay here is another thing... At the air intake pipe, right opposite that strange box (on the other side of the pipe), there is a hole. What is it for? Is there a sensor suppose to be stuck there? Or is it a hole for the strange box? I have circled the area. Please refer to the picture.

The last time when I saw that hole, I just tape is to cover it. I thought there is a mistake or maybe it is not in use anymore. So I tape it because I do not want dirt or dust to go in. Cannot be air temp sensor because air temp sensor is placed at the air box. Later I will try remove the tape and try to drive see if got any difference. But anyone know what is it or not?

it for hose come from cam cover hole...
mb u can compare it with ur ori intake air pipe...

You mean the blowby gas, for my car, no. Because the blowby is fed into the intake manifold instead of the intake pipe. And my intake pipe is stock.

The fitment of the intake hose or whatever you call it doesn't look too good. Is this aftermarket or ori?

Silvertop & Blacktop also have that hole.. the hose connected from the engine's head to the intake hose..

seriously, i dont know what it's for.. but i think u might want to find another intake hose coz from what i see ur hose already worn out.. like mine :bawling:

i juz change it recently..

peace.. out .. :burnout:

Aiks... You mean engine head or valve cover? I suppose valve cover right? I'm gonna put back a tape on it tomorrow. Actually its okay the pipe. No crack, or anything. Just looks old because it is... I change to short ram maybe later this year la...

i think it's the engine head coz valve cover is juz a cover.. no need to supply air to a cover.. right?

Valve cover got blowby... Normally direct it into the intake manifold. But Mitsu engine, some direct it into the intake pipe.
But if head, got what? the combustion gas from the cylinders?

head got camshaft, valve, valve spring, injector, spark plug..

hehe.. nevermind la.. as long as it goes into the engine
