Choice of Project Car

Nvm, just learn from mistake and drive carefully.

Once awhile just ask them when can you drive yourself?
If they say you're not ready nvm, ask a few times after
awhile they will say k u r ready.

Ya, but R35 has to go on paddle shift for a reason. But ya prefer the manual stick instead.
I tested the paddleshift on the Hybrid Jazz, really didnt like it.

Nevermind, I'll just wait. My mother told me that, depending on how well I am doing at uni, she'll get me a car after a few semester. She won't allow 2nd hand car for sure so I think I'll go for Viva 660 when that time comes.

Now R35 looked like it has gone to the mainstream market. When you see owners of older Skyline GT-R, you can tell that they are serious fans about cars. But when you look at owners of R35, some of them don't really looked like they know a lot about cars. Some of them are just rich business man with extra cash on their pockets. If the R35 is only available in manual transmission, I don't think they'll sell as much as they are now since people nowadays prefer auto more than manual even in sports car.

Agreed. Sad but true.

Even the previously 'pure' cars from Porsche is being replaced by newer models with paddle shift (cue new GT3). Cars are getting faster definitely, but more enjoyable? I'm not so sure.

For me, I don't actually enjoy going fast (scary weii), but I do enjoy driving and there's a big difference between the two.

The news about 911 GT3 being only available in automatic shocked me. I thought of among all sports car company, Porsche will be the last one to do such a thing. I mean, they just spend their time, money and resources to develop the new 7 speed manual in the Carrera and Carrera S. Why can't they put that into the GT3 as well? Or maybe they will include manual transmission in GT3 RS instead of the standard GT3? I do hope so.

If remember correctly, cars like GTR35, Ferrari, new GT3 is going on paddleshift are usually improve with more power right? Can't
remember what a friend told me. That there is a reason for having paddleshift instead of manual gearstick..

Nope, I think the guys at Porsche confirms it. It's simply because it's faster than a person's gearshift will ever hope to be. Their reasoning is that, by letting the computers take over the gear shift, the drivers can concentrate more on the handling of the car, resulting in faster lap times.

Paddleshift here is of course referring to dual clutch system, aka DSG/PCT/SST (which is incorrect since an auto can also be paddleshift).

I won't hold my breath if I were you. It does seem like Porsche is embracing the change to PCT for their hardcore models wholeheartedly, if the recent interview with their top man is anything to go by.

PCT? I thought their double clutch transmission is called PDK? Talking about letting computers take over the gear shift, it sounds like less skills are needed to drive the car. If this assist thingy continues, maybe someday high performance car will have steering assist as well.

Renesis how are you la? You sound young enough to be calling me uncle and vr2turbo grandfather.

Btw, you're wrong if you think modern cars are doing all the thinking for the drivers. How many crashed R35s have you heard of so far? Quite a few right? How about crashed Veryons? I know of 2. No matter how smart the car, as long as the driver thinks he's invincible, there'll be disaster. If I were you I'd get one of the more modern cars with modern assists and master that rather than getting an old car since the mechanics of the two different driving styles is vastly different. Also, most modern designs are safer too so personally I think you should go for a modern car and preferably not a Viva.

Preferably not Saga BLM too...:banghead: So called modern car...:damnmate:

20 years old. You and VR2turbo sounds young at here  No disrespect or offence here.

Because of modern techs and assist in new cars, that is probably one of the reasons of why many young or unskilled drivers crashed their cars. Because they overestimated their car's ability to handle any situation and they just go all out in those cars. Since electronics made things look easier, people tend to be more careless because they become overly dependent on electronics to help them handle the task/situation. I mean look at it this way, if you are driving an older car with less electronics and modern equipment, you will pay more attention when you're handling the car right because it is not so easy to handle it. You won't take much risk if you are not confident in it. Meanwhile on new cars, inexperienced drivers with high ego will be much carefree and pay less attention when they drive those cars since those cars are easier to handle and drive. In other words, they pay less attention.

The reason I plan to get the Viva is because of it's lower price tag and better fuel consumption. I know Viva 660 has less safety features compared to many other cars but I think it should be enough for me to use because I'm just using it as a transport not a race/project car. As long as I drive safely and slowly around, it should be ok right? If you're talking about speeding very fast in Viva, of course it will be dangerous. But at high speeds, it makes not much difference whether you are in Viva or GT-R especially if you crashed into a tree or any solid object. At the end of the day, no matter what car you are in, if you crashed into a solid object, chances of fatality is high. So, just drive safely and don't take any risk especially when going fast.

Because we are older try to be young at heart.....
Bro. Izso not yet Unker, coming only. Myself not GF, Unker only.....

Looks like I'm always interacting with a lot of adults at here. Makes me looked like very inexperienced compared to you all. There is still much for me to learn from all of you.

Got a point but modern tech does help in preventing accidents further. Put an idiot behind the wheel no matter old or new car, he will still crash it somehow.

So, modern technologies improvements such as ABS, EBA, Traction Control and etcs does help in
preventing someone from getting into serious accidents and is easier to handle the car.

As long we know the limits of those technologies such as knowing the limits of an old car is the same. All about understanding your car be it new car or old car. But somehow modern cars are
gonna be ahead of old cars in terms of safety.

Actually joined the forum to learn as well. Even though we are older and have more experience in what we have done, we do not know everything, maybe slightly more only.
Of course with the slightly more knowledge we do part with it too when asked for.....:driver:

RENESIS,
vr2turbo's kids are same age or older than u

True about the safety improvement in modern cars. But to some people, they overestimated the safety features of their modern cars and that made them more reckless during their driving. If you put them on some cars with less safety features, they probably won't be so overconfident like how they are when they are driving modern cars. Sometimes, technologies tend to make people become over confident.

Still considered as very skilled in this forum.

RENESIS,
vr2turbo's kids are same age or than u

Woah, then VR2turbo is definitely not young. Do you guys all know each other outside of this forum?

Which is why I has lesser confidence when driving BLM over my corolla
But I understand both cars limit with and without modern techs.
