Hype for the 3rd installment of the Fast and Furious franchise is hitting an all time high. Rhys Millen is building a few RWD EVO for the film; plus there's going to be a RB powered '67 Ford Mustang fastback playing a big role in this film.

From Reuter:
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Lucas Black ("Friday Night Lights") leads the cast for "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," the third installment of the street racer franchise.

Also cast in the Universal Pictures project is rapper Bow Wow, star of the rollerskating picture "Roll Bounce," which opened at No. 4 at the box office last weekend.

"Tokyo Drift" is set in the underground world of Japanese drift racing, where rear-wheel cars speed into turns and "drift" sideways for as long as possible. The story revolves around outsider (Black) who, to avoid jailtime, is sent out of the country to live with his military father in a cramped apartment in a low-rent section of Tokyo. When he loses a race to a driver with ties to the yakuza, he has to pay off his debt by going deep into the Tokyo underworld.

Bow Wow will play Black's friend, Twinkie; Brian Tee will play Black's nemesis, D.K., aka the Drift King; and Nikki Griffin has been cast as Tee's girlfriend.

"Tokyo Drift" is set to begin principal photography next month in Tokyo and Los Angeles, with Justin Lin ("Better Luck Tomorrow") at the helm.

Black will be seen opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard in the Gulf War drama "Jarhead," directed by Sam Mendes.

The "Furious" franchise has proven to be a moneymaking venture for the studio. The first "Furious," directed by Rob Cohen and starring Paul Walker and Vin Diesel, grossed more than $207 million worldwide upon its 2001 release. Two years later, the John Singleton-directed sequel "2 Fast 2 Furious," starring Walker and Tyrese Gibson, passed $236 million.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

Release Date: June 16, 2006
Studio: Universal Pictures
Director: Justin Lin
Screenwriter:
Chris Morgan, Kario Salem
Starring: Bow Wow, Lucas Black, Brian Tee, Nikki Griffin, Sung Kang, Jason Tobin, Nathalie Kelley
Genre: Action, Crime, Thriller

Plot Summary:
"The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" is written by Chris Morgan ("Cellular") and Kario Salem, who places the third entry in Tokyo: in this adrenalized new story, set in the sexy, underground world of Japanese drift racing, the newest and fastest customized rides go head-to-head on some of the most perilous courses ever seen.

"The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" follows the story of Shaun Boswell, who has always been an outsider. A loner at school, his only connection to the indifferent world around him is through illegal street racing -- which has made him particularly unpopular with the local authorities. To avoid jail time, Shaun is sent out of the country to live with his uncle in the military, in a cramped apartment in a low-rent section of Tokyo.

In the land that gave birth to the majority of modified racers on the road, the simple street race has been replaced by the ultimate pedal-to-the-metal, gravity-defying automotive challenge ... drift racing, a deadly combination of brutal speed on heart stopping courses of hairpin turns and switchbacks.

For his first unsuccessful foray in drift racing, Shaun unknowingly takes on D.K., the "Drift King," with ties to the Yakuza, the Japanese crime machine. The only way he can pay off the debt of his loss is to venture into the deadly realm of the Tokyo underworld, where the stakes are life and death.

drooooll....
i wonder how much do they get paid..

wah. good oh. got drifting movie to watch. i hope got chun chick drifting also. last time fast & furios got japanese girl drag racing. aoki. chun leh.

Hope they don't 'jatuhkan nama kereta' like last time enough already.

The reason that there is lots of JDM cars is that there is an announcement (print and web) asking for JDM-type cars for casting like AE86es and such.

Looks like Mitsubishi might be the primary sponsor again. Rhys Millen Racing is preparing a RWD Evo 9 for the move.

making the RWD Evo IX is a... complete waste of time and waste of the Evo... the whole point of the evo is 4WD handling isnt it???
