SOHC =SIngle Over Head Cam..One cam only in the engine

DOHC =Double Over Head Cam...Two cam run together in the same engine

Nissan Twin cam = the engine run or equiped by two CAM n cosider as DOHC engine

If someone said his engine is DOHC 16Valve Turbo-CHarged Intercooler engine mean..... his car engine hv two cam n each cam is suport by 4valve..so 4 piston x 4valve = 16valve...and Turbo-charged Intercooler mean his car got Turbine....the 'siput' wit intercooler....look like tang air one by put on top of engine bay o front bumper normaly...to cooler ur engine....

corect me if im wrong....

SOHC = single overhead camshaft
DOHC = double overhead camshaft

twincam means DOHC lo...

all these are engine models... got no use one...

btw, twincam is more powerful than single cam...

a car thats chopped in half...ppl usually buy the front half for its engine to transplant

btw, wanna ask does halfcut includes the suspension, brakes, etc??...

technically...yes.
but some ppl interperate it wrongly..

half cut means..wat ever on the side that has been cut in half! hehe

Yeah.. twin cam might not be more powerfull than single cam.. look at benz's car.. than u will understand

but, it do make sense...
twin is better than single...
vtec dohc is powerful then the single one's... same goes with all the mitsu's model n so on... rite? think abt it..

yes, but only on high end power if you compare two similar engine. SOHC somewhat has more power at low end rpm, where we normally drive in. But if you talk about the peak power an engine can make, twin cam all the way :D

Sohc has better pulling power.. or put it in simple terms.. easier to pick up.. this is because its ligther.. one Camshaft as compare to DOHC which has too.. therefore less power loss in earlier stages as the belt only needs to drive one shaft as compare 2 two shafts.. where else in later stage, or higher rpm.. thats when the DOHC will beat the SOHC..

Agree with Dino@Casper. :tee:

yeah Dino was rite, which explains why Honda came up with Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Camshaft Lift system in late 80s; derived from their F1 technology.

also known as VTEC, it was design to run 8 valves at lower speed for better pulling power, but as speed increases all 16 valves operates giving advantage of stronger top end over 8 valves engine.

theoretically, DOHC engines develop more top end power against SOHC. this was proven by Fiat and Alfa Romeos during racing in 60's if not mistaken.

there are engines that run with Four Cams also. he he example is Perdana E54's V6 DOHC. or Naza Ria's 2.5 DOHC with 3 timing belt.

and some engines do not have even a single camshaft. these includes 2 strokers like fitted in lawn mowers, generators or mopeds...of kapchaiss.

and rotary engines.
