Perdana V6 Gearbox Problem

based on the market price, year '07 v6 are still within 45k-55k price range..
and for 40k budget, u may get any '05 or '06 car (2nd version enhanced model)..

IMHO, if u plan to get it from any used car dealer/agent, be more careful to choose any..
put more attention of any car that comes with lower price but with 'super-excellent' exterior and low milage..
need to wisely check the unit bcos it might be previously used as an airport limo, gov. official car or company car..
in the other hand, dont forget to put aside extra figure just to spare in repairing / fitting anything of the car esp.
regarding the engine parts or wear & tear thingy cos u'll never knew whats going to be happen in the future..

Hi All,

Need help n info from all of u here.
I bought a perdana sei year 97 last month.
The previous owner is a doctor whose work at the same place with my wife.
The condition of the car are totally 100% standart even she gave me the service booklet with full of service record.

Recently i did install the Atf cooler and few day later can hear some sound(whistling)when the car start moving.(not happening befor install ATf)
What might be the cause?

I plan to change the atf oil immediatly-
Should i flush the gearbox?
What atf fluid to use?Proton atf oil?
How many liter needed?
Any other part/filter need to be changed to?

need your guys tips here

once u installed an atf cooler, u must top up at least 1L of atf..

original toyota type 4 atf...but beware of immitations,
proton atf is sp3, 1 generation behind sp4/type4.

i've got nothing against Proton ATF but there are too many immitation that made me avoid Proton ATF.
that's why i use Pennzoil coz can buy from kilang. and Pennzoil also is a good, reliable and famous brand.
and for me, Pennzoil 10w-40 engine oil is better than Torco 10w-40.

and Danz, there are no Mitsubishi ATF SP4.
u cannot directly compare Mitsu ATF with Toyota ATF as they are different.
Mitsu SP3 is not same as Toyota Type-3.
and i would not recommend to use other than SP3 spec for Perdana/Mitsu gb.

This ATF SPIII should be more suitable and specifically for Perdana/Mitsubishi gearbox right?

neuro..haha yr rite...toyota got no sp4...they use all 'type' instead of 'sp'
nissan uses j-matic....

YYC, yes bro...but make sure u buy from reputable seller not just any ciken spare part shop, cos they might be selling fakes......sp3 is below type 4.....

ya. buy from reputable seller or get from mitsu dealer.
thats why i buy my ATF straight from factory. cheaper a bit and no fake issue.

all ATFs offer lubrication for the gb but the specs are different. what i'm saying is that, it may lubricate ur gb but it's not 'ngam'. try goggling the spec of different ATF. to be safe, just get ATF with SP3.
alot of major oil companies produces Multi-Vehicle ATF which are compatible with a lot of gearboxes. buy ATFs that have SP3 spec.

1. drain ATF and replace new ATF
- max 4L

2. drain ATF, take out oil pan, change filter, change gasket
- at least 4.2L

3. no.2 + flush gb and cooler
- 4L to flush, then about 5L to top up and fill gb and cooler.

That is hell lots of oil if I do package #3!!!
Can I use a cheaper ATF to flush before I fill up a good one?

some ppl do that i suppose.
but if i were to do it, i would use the same ATF that i want inside the gb.

where to get cheap ATF?
pennzoil atf is around rm80-90 per bottle 4L, cheap la tu..

I did go to my usual workshop yesterday.
The mechanic drove my car and after further checking that
screaming sound was not from the gearbox.
It is actually happen as a sign that my timing belt need to be change already
Ha Ha Ha !
Luckily not the gbox that problem.
By the way i change the the atf(i used elf atf 4 bottle),Lucas gearbox addative 1 bottle,filter.
Now can feel the different.Gear change very smooth and no jerking.
It all cost me RM320 but im satisfied with the result.
Just for sharing.

belt screeching sound also cannot differentiate. haha..
that's what made me, danz and mymax pening coz if gb, sure grinding sound (metal to metal)..

hi bro welcome to zth, but hope u could converse in english bro...
anways do ensure yr gbox is equipped with an ATF cooler...its located infront of yr radiator.....
do an atf flush every 15-20k kms...
