actually both car also ok.u say which type of civic first 2 door or 4 door?
if for daily use 4 door civic would be the wise choice but if you not a family man i will take
the putra cos i like coupe car myself hehe.....actually i have who own this two cars no comment from them is the matter how u maintain n the way of your own driving... if ulike Vtec take civic if u like mivec or turbo mah take putra easy choice right? just my 2 cents

personally speaking, putra wud be my choice.

it comes with MOMO....:lol: bucket seats...or half bucket maybe.

younger. limited numbers on the road means price will hold good. but putra not easy to find a clean example. unless u prefer buying modded cars instead of standard.

civic on the other hand is too old. maybe we can get loan at the age of 12 years, but once it reached 15 years, nobody wud provide loan thus value wud plummet down. interested buyers will go away becoz cant get loan. same happening to toyota corolla SED AE101...or mazda astina (now only RM10K). think what happen the next 3 years.

and for standard civic 1.6 SR4(local), i do not think we can get 160bhp as the engine is only SOHC and no VTEC. only civic SO4 (big eye) we can get CKD VTEC. the rest is non VTEC.

standard versus standard, i wud go for Putra. or Wira DOHC but putra has less doors. stronger body perhaps; better cornering.

Thanks, zan
yes, i do prefer this kind of reply, rather than simply type in few words
at least it includes some analysis, helps to make decision. :rolleyes:

Any more reply? I'm waiting for it :biggrin:

aha! for 40K i suggest better buy myvi. new car. big. inspirational sprint. economical. and err, that's it.

or savvy AMT. but both beyond 40K.:D

No! Myvi is out of my choice, even though it's new. Girlish exterior design, jz like a toy :tongue: . I rather pay more for maintenance.

I'll go for the putra.

Reason:
i tried to buy and eg before but the loan is insanely difficult and even if u can get one, the interest will be high and installment period will be short. i asked around and found out if it's a toyota (same age), the loan can go higher unlike honda. protons can go even higher.

The putra however.. well, i'd say in general, proton cars are easier to get a loan for eventho that i'm not sure why. And its younger-1997.

Financially, u shouldnt consider my opinion if ur going for cash buy.

If you keen on motorsports, you would already heard or brush across people telling you the what VTEC has to offer...
a Very nice 3rd gear with VTEC...
by tuning the car, you can get good power to weight ratio, high rev VTEC engine...

Since you are not opting fr engine transplant, 4g63 on putra is out of the question...

my instinct says Civic...

however putraa plus points does include higher loan than EG.....

i go for the EG...

To me, even the EF still looks nice today...:biggrin:

loan interest is higher? and installment period is shorter?
ok, at least now i know more about loan, thanks.

i'm wondering why honda gets a higher loan interest?

DJmobile, of course i'll not buy the car with cash. If i have Rm35000 in hand, i would go for EK :biggrin:

My opinion might be a little biased towards the Civic simply because i drive one myself. Here's my opinion.

First, the Civic offers excellent fuel consumption in contrary to popular belief by many who thinks Honda cars drink petrol. Of coz when its driven moderately and not high revving it all the time. In fact my car ranks as one of the best in fuel consumption in my company's petrol consumption and some of my colleagues wira 1.5 and 1.6 takes even more petrol than my car. For me, the Civic is my daily car and i don't normally high rev it unnecessary or enter VTEC activation point so i'd say if you're moderate driven, you can forget about this problem. The Putra on the other hand is a 1.8 and without the 50% tax reduction. No matter what, a 1.8 will always consume more petrol than a 1.6 when driven in similar manner.

Performance wise, i think no need to explain much as we all know how potential the Civic engines are. In this sense, i think the 1.8 Putra's would out accelerate the Civic simply because its got more HP. When i say Civic, i mean the 1.6 SOHC VTEC or even 1.6EFI which i don't think will win the Putra.

Quality of interior very much depends on how the ex-owner take car of his car. You can actually find a good condition Putra who's ex-owner is a car lover. But as for quality of built, there's no doubt Honda produces great interior and its hard to even compare Proton's quality of interior as opposed to Honda.

Handling wise, i think the Putra actually handles beautifully while the Civic is more geared towards comfort in which if you change to adjustables, its a different story altogether. The Civic is actually a very comfortable car to sit inside so at the end of the day, you yourself must testdrive both and see which car captivates you most.

For me, without a doubt i'll get the Civic simply because of the class that is one rung above Proton. The quality is different, the standard is different too.

12years car very hard to get loan.if got summore the interest will be so2 high and short installment.maybe 5years oni and maybe can reach up to 7-8k for interest oni.for me proton putra its excellent choice. :rock: younger and limited.summore can endorse to evo3 engine without sweat.maybe the fc might be high.my fren putra drink fuel like drinking sirap lorr..

one more advantage standard putra has against standard SR4 civic (or EG).

all disc brakes setup PLUS ABS!!

we do need that with 140bhp underneath our foot.

let me tell u my father's experince buying Honda Accord CA5 non EFI back in 1996.

he bought the 7 years old Accord at 53K. in year 2000 he wanted to sell off the car becoz ver much in love with waja. that time the accord was 11 years old already.
value?? only about 25K!!

but the saddest thing was that no dealer wanted to take trade in becoz difficult to re-sell. unless of coz, he was willing to accept low trade in. which was about 13K only. and we're talking about 11 years old Accord.

that was then, but i learnt a lot from the lesson. i sold my charade at half price after 5 years using. to me, its nor fair but that's the reality.

from market research,
average market price for civic SR4 1.6M year 92 is about 25K.
93 29K.
94 33K
95 37K
95 SO4 (EK)43K.

dont buy overpriced standard cars.

for putra 1.8M 1996 - 33K
1997 - 35K
1998 - 37K
1999 - 39K.

remember, year 96 car can never be more expensive than year 97/98 car.

all the best!!:D

I've the same choice 3 years ago. and I've choose Civic = Better Quality , for me as I used to drive Wira. My 10 years old civic SR4 is better quality than my new WIRA 1.3 in almost every aspect.

but to tell you the truth - coupe is usually better looking than sedans.

thanks for your info, but 92civic only worth 29K? is this used car dealer price? i notice most of them is priced RM32K++

it seems like putra is more economic to play.

these are the factor cause dilemma between 2 cars :frown:
...performance?
......maintenance?
.........quality?
............exterior design?
...............practicality?
..................monthly instalment? etc.
:hmmmm::hmmmm::hmmmm:

Cannot have them all at the same time, must give and take

hawick, buy one Civic 1.6 92 and try to sell the next day. then u know u had overpay.

as i had mentioned, 92 cars cant be more expensive than 93 rite? and 93 cant be more dearer than 94 rite? coz it doenst make sense at all. the flow goes through until year 2005.

i give you one more example. a wira. 1.5M sedan
2005 = 46K
2004 = 40K
2003 = 36K
2002 = 34K
2001 = 32K
2000 = 30K
1999 = 28K
1998 = 26K
1997 = 24K
1996 = 22K
1995 = 20K
1994 = 19K
1993 = 18K

and lets say, u want to sell ur wira 1.5 1999 at 31K. why should i pay such price for 99 model when instead i can get a year 2001 one? this is market force, but we malaysians often take things for granted. we wont dare to go against car dealers what more if we do not know whats the real market like.

there are many other used car dealers, and many more examples u can find. dont overpay, even though only RM2,000.

happened to myself; bought wira 1.6 3 mnths ago at 27K when actual market average is about 25K. i was taken by the sales man nice words, and kind attitude towards me. heh heh :D

i shud have been more harsh and save myself RM2K.

I think there's nothing wrong with 4G93P consumption. I myself am using one with the same ECU as a Putra and get 400-450km on a full tank.

It all depends on your right foot.
