need help here.

just formatted a win2k server.everything fresh. now all clients, running XP pro and the server is running ONLY by workgroup.

problem is. all client cant see nor access to the server. ping is ok.both way are fine.when type the server name at the RUN and enter... some error about "u do not hv permission......" pop out.

previously all was running fine till i format the server due to virus infection.

both server and pcs are under a same workgroup. IPs are under a same range. what else is missing??.... sigh......

maybe you must set the permisions first..
Since you cannot access the server

try to go to program>Administrations tools>Active Directory users and computers

try set the client as guest.Or administrator..
since it is a server,it have the security system to prevent someone from accesing it..
you got to have permisions and password..

p/s : and make sure you have your windows updated..

the username and password of all the clients already in the server.

currently all client are using "Administrator" as window login name...

wats an AD?

AD = Active Directory

bryan90s,

shall i walkin as independent consultant and fix ur problem? of course, it's not free.. :D

ok, looks like you are not using AD.
You have W2k Server (SP4?) and XP (Pro or Home? SP1 or SP2?)

in simple way, if you want to see each other
01. You need a DNS/WINS server to resolve the name
02. If you want to stick with IP, can you try map to "\\your_w2k_ip\c$"

your_w2k_ip is the ip like 192.168.1.1

click on "use different name and password",
for user name, enter "your_w2k_machine_name\administrator"
password, enter administrator for the w2k

and try to map it.

Make sure u set a password for the Administrator user on the Windows XP workstations 1st.

hi, got some non-related Q here... if i got a notebook and wanted to connect to my office's network... how ah? i set all those workgroup name, IP add, etc... but still not working for me..
