1.6ers Owners (Mitsi/Proton)

well.. i know that 1.6 auto GB must use better gear oil.. compare to 1.5 auto GB...
1.5 Auto can use normal gear oil.. but for 1.6 auto.. u must use better gear oil...
 
hehe... i'm using 93 wira 1.6 auto... till today i change 2 GB already... really make me sakit palak...all the best... :tee:
 
i'm having the same probs like takeru..jaz that my car is diff...1997 1.6xli satria...so wat u espect for an auto GB..it really sux..it change only when it reach 6.5k rpm (that one if i rev la) n it miss the 3rd gear all the time (free gear) so evytime i rev it till 3rd gear it will go to free gear then i have to wait for a while until the gear masuk balik...i wonder why..is it bcoz of the gear it self? i'm having this prob for about 7 months oreadi...and planning to change to manual... :mad:
 
the 4th gear is an overdrive right..so its a 3 speed + overdrive..

ridox..i didnt experience that free gear syndrome..btw i drive wira a/b 1.6 (ME) and have a good service record (my mum using it)

My 97/reg mar98 wira 1.6a revs till the redline. No problems of late changes. I get a 0-100k/mh time of around 9.5-10secs from a standstill. Its on the 2nd gearbox and is still okay for now. One of the reasons for the g/box getting faulty so fast for both perdanas and wira 1.6 autos (basically same gearbox different g/box electronics only) is that they do not like heat. and in malaysian weather heat and humidity is always there. one way is to ensure your engine gets proper cooling all the time. hence you install an oil cooler or an auto transmission cooler or both. AND then make sure you drain and change your transmission fluid at least once a year irregardless of mileage - the fluid usually loses its properties after lots of heat.

hmm...so u saying my gear is still ok jaz that i have to change the gear fluid more frequent? well if wat u say really got to do with my gb probs then i would be happy that i do not have too spend lots of money jaz on that part alone..man getting a new gearbox is not sumthing cheap.......the cooling part that u mention...can u tell me more detail about it? and the price?...coz man , if u had this prob over ur car...i'm prettty sure u cannot tahan with it..it really sickening me...and i seriously got to do sumthin about it! :frown:

I got 1 Matspeed ECU for 4G92P for sale, redline 78++ like that. Good for stock engine. If modded, then i donno la. Used previously on my wira 1.6xli aeroback. PM me whoever interested.

No...i am not saying your gear is okay.All the maintenance should have been done without fail b4 any fault happens to your gearbox. Get a second hand one, i did that and mine is (touch wood) still okay after nearly 2 yrs. First one lasted 5 yrs. The first box also allowed me to pull to the red line. However, as soon as it couldnt shift properly and was stuck in a gear or two, i changed it. You have to maintain it well. Simple as that.

oil cooler or auto transmission fluid cooler? do a search on it over the internet, there are a few good brands of auto trans cooler. However, you can use any chop shop oil cooler to use as either as an oil cooler or a auto trans cooler with some work.

Maybe is the permanant damage the previous owner had done or other reasons, but that is not quite a trouble... As long as I dun get accident from it... Or else someone's is in trouble... :secruity:

similar prob to me..After discussion with few mech I change my gb to manual mivec..No more prob + save more fuel = save money (incl maintenace on auto gb)
 
i was thinking to change to mivec 1.8 gearbox..heard it will save more fuel..is it? coz damn i'm so tired with this 3 gear auto gb! :thumpdown

very xpansive u change ur auto gbx, maybe it's recond, but if u try find from chop shop should be cheaper, last time i servay the price arround rm400-500 with 1 month warranty. For labour should be arround rm100 - 150.... add filter + oil rm250....

where got 1.8 mivec..IMHO, the next best thing is u just change to 1.6 manual g/b...if still want to use auto then, fix some auto tranny cooler and service it frequently (yearly or by mileage)..prevention is better then cure

try 2 find proton diesel 2.0...best juga..
 
millenium ed g/b is a new design and less prob compare to old g/b..Very hard to find..price from proton for a new set is from Rm8k if not mistaken..
