Bandpass enclosure mod

[Concept]

Recently, I build a bandpass enclusure for two 12" RDS ProExtreme (cap ayam) subwoofer, the sound is quite loud, but, I'm not satisfied with it, my question is, if I install another port at the top of the enclosure, will it sound louder? Please refer to the pic below, as my enclosure is identical to it. Thanks.

normal vented box should sound louder...bandpass box sound deeper..if not wrong...

It is like 2 woofer is hitting each other and destroying their sound, if this happens what will you have? Normally we need the woofer to hit something solid to get the best effect. Or try to remove the cover and see does it help?

bandpass is louder than ported given the same driver ans power through them.
It will not help if you add another port. What you can do is you replace with a larger port and make the box bigger to increase efficientcy.

i think the port lenght is 1 of the factor, second is your woofer sensitivity should higher that 90DB, and your amp setting as well..

Thanks for all of your replys, last time I installed my subs to vented enclosure, the cheapo one that available at accesories shop, the bass not deep enough and at higher volume or certain bass, it will sound 'blupp blupp blupp...' the bandpass will also sound like this at high volume, but the bass is much more solid and louder than vented box. Is there another way to get rid of that 'blup blupp' sound? or my amp is not powerful enough? by the way, i'm using Concept CA-525M Class AB Monoblock. http://concept-intl.net/proddetail.asp?ID=70&ProductLine=Amplifier And my head unit is Pioneer 6600.

should be your AMP setting, ur AMP come with bass boost feature, you should adjust acording to the PUCH !, not the lower or higher is better, just fit to the sub is ok !, remember what is ur Sub woofer max lavel, the "blupp blupp" is starting to tell you that ur sub is having too much power oledi.."Built-in continuously variable 18dB per octave crossover "- do not put to 18db, try lower to listen the sound, and control ur bass level control.

i think the ready made boxes u keep buying are not built for sound, just for show. do some research on box building (design, size, port size, tuning frequency, download WinIsd, get t/s parameters for your sub, etc etc) u should be able to get what u want, and then go to a shop that can build a good box for u....

AGREE ! ready made is to general, bandpass hv to build with the SUBwoofer spec..

Thanks for reply guys, I'm really appreaciate it. I'm not using ready made bandpass box, I make it myself but err.. not according to the spec though. I made the box as large as possible, even difficult to take it in and out from my Waja's boot. I did tried larger diameter 100mm port, 10inch long, the bass somehow softer, not my type. Cut them shorter, about 4 inch long, the bass getting worse, the box like pumping air only.... now, switch back to 80mm diameter port with 4 inch long, the bass is better. So, if I add another port like the picture above, it won't make the bass louder eh? I wated to try to cut the hole for the port and tess.. but if unsuccessful, how to seal it back, as I already running out of MDF board. Hhmmm.. i'm dizzy already.. trying to make the bass louder.

u really need some research. simple ported box would do wonders if done right. just need correct box volume and port size..

just google and spend some time on the net oledi can help u a lot, lots of reading material available....

you cannot just built a band pass without doing any calculations ie. box volume and port lenght. I myself never built a bandpass but i seen and heard one. Bandpass is loud and good for higher freq. but for lower freq. ported will be a better choice.

The reason your bass sounds flabby is because of the cone stiffness. It cannot be help.

You may want to try building an ABC box. these box are godd in high and low freq.

in my car now i have got 2 subwoofer inside a bandpass enclosure.

is only a twin 6.5" subwoofer. but compare to my another 10" subwoofer (ported), i will need to adjust the gain to higher level when i am using the small subwoofer with bandpass enclosure.

in other words, the bandpass require more power to properly drive it.thats my experience la...

geez guys, i thought this should be an easy answer for you all :shades_smile:


dude, the bandpass box that you have is a 4th. order bandpass. Now if you install a port in the sealed chamber, you will turn it into 6th. order bandpass.

bandpass box is not easy to get it right so if you simply hantam put a port there, i guess you will get bad result. Just replace your box and go for easy to do ported box. Play around with the port tuning to get what response you like.

also the port specs. will determine the band of freq. eg. 50hz - 120hz that the sub going to play. Hence the name bandpass.

Wrong sizing will cause peaks, dips etc. in summary it will play bad.
