is it possible to transplant a v-tec engine into a old car? such as a nissan sunny or celica ta23?.. can it be endorsed? illegal?

Vtec ares FF engines while TA23 is a FR. Judging by that, the technicalities are challenging. JPJ will not endorse such transplant.

Endorsement aside, I've seen Aussie putting a Vtec in a TA22, or Ta23. but it requires great tech know how, money, etc. End of the day, the question of legality remains.....

Why not buy a car with VTEC straight?

Shouldn't the celica comes with a T-series engine? if so, it's pretty good oredi and its built like a tank.

The engine you wish to plonk in on your celica depends on your expected performance. What do you expect from your car, as a daily ride, sport ride, racing/track, drag, etc?

What's your budget, btw?

then what is the most suitable engine for the ta23?

easiest is to use 3t-gte or any of the t-series engines but over here in malaysia, sourcing parts require quite an effort if u dont know the right people.

if u want simple transplant, moderate power, easy work, wont take so much time to complete, choose 4AGE 16 valve from toyota ae86.

if u want to go really fast, lots of power but as a result u have to go some extra lengths to keep everything reliable, safe n controllable, choose 1jz-gte from toyota supra.

if u like to cruise on highways, like smooth power delivery with lots of torque that are not explosive, choose 1uz-fe from lexus ls400. this one auto only. can be changed to manual but very very expensive.

it all depends on ur driving style, what u intend to achieve from ur car, ur budget, ur commitment n patience, n in some cases, what ur parents/girlfriend/wife permits u to have...

all of the options above have already been done n proven to satisfy the owners' tastebuds. if ur really really serious on doing up ur car, check this out http://drift.com.my/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22352 and send private message to the thread starter. he's extremely knowledgeable on toyota TA2x cars n personally rebuilt a few TA2x already. check out toymods forums as well n check out members' rides section. there are lots of TA23s running all sorts of engines. some even converted to GTR 4wd drivetrains...

I would say to TS this. Do you have RM30-50K to spare? If you have, then buying a hnoda halfcut is an expensive affair. Sometimes more than 20K for those with tuning parts. Then you need to find CRV fear subframe. Then need customized main drive shaft. Then need to do a lot of body work for gearbox tunnel, rear assembly, engine mounts. 100% not legal anymore. Just find in Google B18 FR integra. Even the USA guys say damn expensive.

If you want to make it into FF platform also can. But the ride height would trouble you.

All in all. Waste of money and pointless point to prove. Put in a 1UZ, lay down the throttle and let the engine to the talking. Thats what i say.

i would like to make it a sports monster.. but legal of course.. can a 1jz fit into the celica? can it be endorsed?
